Philadelphia Has A Loving, Giving Christmas Jannie Blackwell Makes Merry for 3,000 Needy From City Shelters
December 23, 2010
We Salute Retiring State Representative
Frank Oliver
“Pray to God and he always delivers,” remarked Councilwoman Jannie Blackwell, who for the 11th straight year hosted over 3,000 needy homeless from city shelters, giving the children more than enough presents. Helping her were an
array of local businesses and volunteers from several groups. She remarked, “Donors were generous despite the recession we are in. God answered our prayers.” In photos above, Jannie waves to children in line who called out to her.
She’s with Joey Temple and Michael Carpenter, inspecting more bags of gifts. Photo at right gives an idea of massive effort, with food brought to each diner at their table by volunteers. “Merry Christmas, Jannie!”
