by Maria Merlino Front & Wolf Streets is the South Philadelphia neighborhood where Elmer Keenan grew up and spent his whole life. “Actually, I live on Lee Street, but the city wiped us off the map when they built the highway. Some houses were saved, but you won’t find ‘Lee Street’ on the City maps anymore. I’m the third generation, but there are now five generations with my grandson.” Keenan knows his way around South Philly’s streets. Thanks to a magnanimous gift, the feisty military veteran will be able to keep on getting around them. Keenan, his son Matthew and a group of benevolent citizens are gathering in Councilman Mark Squilla’s office. Squilla will soon be presenting the elder Keenan with a motorized wheelchair that Thank-A-Vet, a charitable organization, had recently received. Shannon Drake, who founded the group, immediately put out feelers to get the equipment to the best candidate. (Cont. Page 2)
