its mark with a map By Hunter Johnstone Staff Writer Keeping with the longstanding Lake Forest Academy tradition of Senior Class gifts, this year’s senior class plans to donate a new school map near the entrance to the Corbin Academic Center. The map was chosen by a class vote, and it will feature a few improvements from the one that currently stands. “The map that we will have will be more descriptive and more elaborate [than the current one],” said Brandon Eason, senior class president. The new map will also be an updated with new campus additions such as the Fitzsimmons Athletic Wing and the Crown Fitness Center. Funding for the map will also be handled differently than in years past in that seniors are being encouraged to pay for the gift on their own, rather than paying with charge sheets that often involve parent donations. “Every student gave what they could afford to give, making it a more personal gift from the class,” said Eason.

Other seniors, such as Zach Volland, agree with Eason about funding the gift, however he believes that charge sheets would allow a larger budget and greater possibilities for gift choices in the future. The senior class also hopes the new map will be a proper reminder of their impact on the school and will preserve their legacy at LFA. “I think it will be a good way for our class to be remembered because it’s the first thing you see when you come onto campus,” said Eason. “I think it will be a noticeable contribution to the school.”

Student Survey

Seniors share plans for college By Jane Xu Staff Writer As winter goes and summer comes, time flows like water... or sands through an hour glass. For seniors during their last year in the Lake Forest Academy community, it is time to say goodbye and step in to a brand new college life. According to a recent survey by The Spectator, to which 51% of seniors responded, the majority of graduating seniors said that engineering and business will be the two most popular majors in college. Another 21% of the seniors said they will not declare their majors until their sophomore years in college. Some other majors that emerged from the survey were Aerospace Engineering, Film Production, Sports Management, Political Science, and Creative Writing in English literature. Almost 41% of seniors stated that they hope to participate in collegiate sports. A large number of survey respondents said that soccer and hockey would be their college sports. “I am going to be cheering and flying at Providence College next year,” said Jess Kaminsky, the senior LFA cheerleading captain, “I really want to continue cheering wherever I go to college mainly because

cheerleading has been such an important part of my life since elementary school.” Several seniors hope to make a career in professional sports after college. There were also many survey participants who felt relieved and “glad to finally get rid of mandatory sports.” Most seniors have already made considerable plans for the future. Nearly 75% of the seniors have already decided to go to graduate school to continue further studies. Talking about their careers, 28.6% of seniors thought that they would be likely to get a job in the health care field. Approximately 18% of the seniors think their careers are going to be in Media or Communications, while 26.5% said their interest was to be in Business. Among other jobs mentioned by the respondents were acting, military service, diplomatic service or simultaneous translating. Talking about future plans, most seniors have very different ideal places to live in. Only four people think that they will be coming back to Chicago after graduating from college. Also, most international LFA students wish to return to their homelands after graduating from college.
