Description of Work:

Apprentices are given structure on-the-job and classroom training, as well as mentorship and supervision from experienced PWD employees to prepare them for in-demand, upwardly mobile careers with the Philadelphia Water Department in fields such as: Grounds & Facilities Maintenance, Electronics & Instrumentation, Electrical Maintenance, HVAC Maintenance, Mechanical Maintenance, Engineering Aide, Laboratory Technician, Safety Technician, and Water Treatment Plant Operations.

18 years of age or older

High School Diploma or GED

Driver ’s license preferred

• Be a successful participant of a City of Philadelphia recognized workforce development program OR graduate of a City of Philadelphia School District School.

• A recommendation from a partner organization of the City of Philadelphia may substitute for the workforce development or graduate requirements.

• Authorized to work in the United States.

•Prior introduction to the trade from a work readiness or vocational high school program preferred.

•Pass an aptitude test.
