Councilman O’Neill introduced a bill in City Council, which passed unanimously, renaming Chalfont Playground in honor of the memory of Corporal James O’Connor. The Playground will now officially be known as Corporal Jimmy O'Connor Playground. In addition to the name change, Councilman O’Neill has been renovat ing the playground and spray-ground areas, and Calvary Athletic Association’s gym. A mural dedicated to the life and legacy of Corporal O’Connor was recently dedicated on the front of the Rec Building. Stay tuned for more infor mation regarding the details of the playground ribbon-cutting ceremony.

City Council passed legislation supported by O’Neill to increase the Homestead Exemption and extend the deadline for the Low-Income Senior Citizen Tax Freeze. The Homestead Exemption now saves homeowners $1,120.00 annually on real estate taxes. If you already receive the Homestead Exemption, you do not need to reapply. The deadline to apply for the Homestead Exemption is December 1, 2022. The deadline to apply for the Low-Income Senior Citizen Tax Freeze is September 30, 2023. The renovation of Fitzpatrick Playground will begin this fall. Councilman O’Neill has secured $825,000 in City funding for the project which will include new windows and doors for the rec building, safety surface matting, new play equipment, new tables & benches, and a multi-purpose “sports court, including pickle ball to replace the dilapidated hockey court.

RENOVATION OF MITCHELL PLAYGROUND UNDERWAY!

The renovation of Mitchell Playground has begun and Councilman O’Neill has invested $614,000 of City Funding in the Far Northeast Philadelphia Playground. Phila delphia playground. The project includes the renovation of the spray-ground, play ground equipment, and fencing.

SEPTA Senior Fare Card Updates

SEPTA is extending the expiration dates for Senior Key ID Cards with 2020, 2021 and 2022 expiration dates. No Septa Key Senior ID Cards Will Expire In 2022. Senior Key Cards with printed expiration dates of 2020, 2021 and 2022 will now remain effective through the end of the month printed on the card in 2023. If you believe your assessment is toohigh, file a First Level Review form and mail it back to OPA by the NEW October 14 , 2022 deadline. COUNCILMAN O’NEILL VOTES TO PASS SAVE OUR HOMES PROPERTY TAX RELIEF PLAN Mandated Transparency by the City’s Office of Property Assessment. Extend the enrollment deadline for the Senior Tax Freeze program, allowing low-income seniors to freeze their property assessments retroactively, as far back as 2018. Increase the City’s Homestead Exemption from $45,000 to $80,000, giving every homeowner $1,120.00 off of their property tax bill. Multiple changes to the Longtime Owner-Occupants Program (LOOP) will significantly increase access for long-time homeowners. COUNCILMAN O’NEILL CONGRATULATES NEW EAGLE SCOUTS

The $616,000 upgrade of Lackman Playground includes the renovation and expansion of the existing playground, paving repair with re-striping of the tricycle tracks, tennis courts and replacing/ adding necessary site amenities. Additional trees are added throughout the play ground for increased shade and cooling. All tree species are native and climate-resilient. Play equipment selections emphasize accessibility for physically disabled users, and sensory play (musical equipment) pieces are also provided. A new accessible entrance from the public sidewalk is also being provided for easy movement. Two pickle ball courts are added to the tennis courts to create an additional amenity for the community. Basketball courts are re-striped with new backboards and nets.

The project includes the installation of new pedestrian scale lighting, at the southern edge of the property bordering the School District. New LED’s light were added for safety at the request of Councilmember O'Neill. Additional improve ments are scheduled this year for the rest of the playground and recreation facility.
