SERVICES A source of primary care in Philadelphia for more than 10 years, Mary Howard Health Center offers the following services: ĩĩ Comprehensive primary care

ĩĩ Family planning services including treatment for STDs

ĩĩ Rapid HIV testing and counseling

ĩĩ Substance abuse and mental health treatment and referrals

ĩĩ Referrals to additional health and social service providers

ĩĩ Health education and disease prevention

ĩĩ Enrollment in insurance and public benefits

Mary Howard Health Center STAFF Mary Howard Health Center staff includes two nurse practitioners, a full-time social worker and a psychiatric nurse.

Who was MARY HOWARD? Mary Howard was a homeless Philadelphian who was well known in the community. Mary always wore sunglasses, a baseball cap and her trademark red lipstick. Diagnosed with schizophrenia, Mary’s ever-present smile and positive attitude touched those who knew her. Mary passed away in 1995 from health conditions compromised and worsened because of her living conditions on the city’s streets.

HEALTH CARE for the HOMELESS Public Health Management Corporation (PHMC) created Mary Howard Health Center as part of its Health Care for the Homeless program. Health Care for the Homeless was created in 1985 to address the unmet health needs of homeless people. The program provides health care outreach and services to shelter residents at over 40 shelters throughout the Philadelphia region.

PHMC Mary Howard Health Center is managed by Public Health Management Corporation (PHMC). PHMC is a nonprofit, public health organization committed to improving the health of the community through outreach, education, health promotion research, planning, technical assistance and direct services.
