When asked to design a book based off excerpts of my choice, I new right away as I had been reading, You Are Here by Thich Nhat Hanh. As this book takes one into the buddhists teachings and focuses a lot on how to practice mindfulness, I wanted to capture the overwhelming feelings or other thoughts that pass through one's mind when trying to let go of the distractions that keep us away from reaching mindfulness. To demonstrate the heaviness one can feel from not being able to achieve this tranquil state, it was important to play with the repetition of text, smearing words/people, scale, composition, and color. Those choices all affect the energy from spread to spread. All photos were taken by myself, Phoebe Pope.
