Rusden Esq in the Dept of Police, Melbourne [1] (May 17) inbound from Newcastle NSW with 6d violet P13 tied indistinct sunburst; [2] 1868 (Feb 5) from Brighton with 2d Laureate with poor BN cancel. [Comes with biographical entry from Encyclopedia of Australian Science which - inter alia - notes that he was an accountant in the Police till 1891; quite a famous Victorian.] 1899 (Aug 7) use of Inland Parcel Tag stated to have weighed 5lbs with 6d & 3d with three fine strikes (two tying the adhesives) of ‘VIOLET TOWN/AU7/99/VICTORIA’ cds, initialled “HS” at left, accompanied by a previously adhered-to-the-label 2/6d yellow Stamp Duty cancelled with manuscript “AU/7” x2 which overscore the datelines of a previously applied Violet Town ‘JY17/99’ cds.
