Eight illustrated covers signed Alan W Tagart pilot and AJ Lloyd Normanton Postmaster, flown various sectors and some additionally signed at one of the cattle stations, prepared by and for noted Cairns aero-philatelist Les Wright. KGV CofA wmk frankings, seven by ½d orange x4 (six are blocks of 4), one by 2d red, all cancelled Normanton cds (no PO’s at the cattle stations), with the Macaroni cover dated July 22 even though certified first official flight by the Postmaster. Fine. (8) 1940 New Zealand - Australia (Apr 27 - May2) and return flying boat service AAMC #899-900, Cat $200. (12) 1946-55 Collection in range AAMC #1057-1351, Cat $2100 at least; domestic smaller sector as well as long-haul inbound/outbound first flights, others include commemorative and some not flown. Bonnington. 1947 Australia - Norfolk Island (Oct 14) AAMC #1113, and Norfolk Island - Australia (Oct 15) AAMC #1114, together Cat $250. Two Qantas Empire Airways Ltd envelopes to Ernie Crome with special vignette affixed and each signed by pilot LR Ambrose, appropriate backstamps, fine. (2) 1948 Sydney - Narrabri - Sydney (July 5-19) eight pilot-signed envelopes of Butler Air Transport Pty, Ltd franked 5½d Emu, loosely in the range AAMC #1183-3c, Cat $200. All are inscribed First Air Service or First Air Mail Service followed by the sector flown and the date (which does not always coincide with the pmk date). AAMC is less than fully informative with only those flown on July 12th being recorded - it is clear from the covers that some occurred earlier (eg Sydney - Thargomindah July 8th, pmkd July 7th and supporting arr backstamp July 8th) and others may have occurred later (eg Goondiwindi - Sydney July 19th, pmkd July 19th). Some foxing but mainly fine, study material. (8) 1949 Australia - South Africa - Australia on cover franked with 2½d scarlet KGVI cancelled with Sydney of 14NO49 & South African 1½d brown & blue cancelled with Johannesburg of 20XI49, with blue vignette for Australia - South Africa, AAMC #1193-4, Cat $100++. 1953 Sydney - Lae - Hollandia - Lae (Sept 5-8) the three main sector first flights being AAMC #1322-4 (also AAMC #P202, 204, 206) Cat $265. All have the specially prepared vignettes tied by the signature of Capt JB Fawcett, the Sydney - Lae sector signed W Forgan-Smith and A Jacobson as well. The Hollandia - Lae cover lightly foxed around stamps (would clean up with care), otherwise fine. (3) 1954 ‘Belfast’ Singapore Crash AAMC #1337, Cat $100+; envelope Sydney - Singapore recovered and, naturally, water stained. 1955 Cocos (Keeling Is) - Australia (Nov 23) AAMC #1354, plain envelope to Hobart with the scarce to rare red cachet (nearly all were struck in violet), no backstamp. 1956-65 Collection majority QANTAS first flights but others also included in fairly extensive run AAMC #1362-1565, Cat $2700 at very least. Though several may be covered more than once, no obvious duplication seen. Inbound and outbound, round the world, intermediates in some depth (particularly noting the convoluted Australia - Vienna Australia routings in AAMC #1542-3a & 1546-7a). Oddments include mint vignette sheetlets, helicopters, a skywriting flight over Perth, some not flown, some that may have been flown but not in AAMC (eg 1957 (March 11, 17) Brisbane - Mary Kathleen and return). Mainly fine. (c130) 1966-81 Collection majority major airlines first flights with QANTAS to the fore but others included in fairly extensive run AAMC #1577-1905, Cat $3000+ at very least. Though several may be covered more than once, no obvious duplication seen.
