Unusual. 1004P * C 1895 Postmaster-General’s Frank Stamp on long blue OHMS envelope uprated pair 2½d prob SG #315b each cancelled ‘MELBOURNE/10Y/DE/20/95’ to California, redirected from Coronado to San Diego where advertised and unclaimed (handstamps) with triangle DEAD/LETTER/OFFICE/96/MAR3’ (American) and returned to Australia where it received two strikes in magenta half-moon ‘RECEIVED OPEN/D.L.B./VICTORIA’ one on the front of the envelope (which, for display purposes, has been recut, refolded and reinforced/repaired so that both of these strikes now appear on the back !) alongside, also magenta, ‘DEAD LETTER OFFICE/B/MY1/96/MELBOURNE’. Regardless of the “jiggery pokery” with the envelope, the D.L.B. handstamp is rare, two on one cover more so. Comes on display page with a modern reproduction. 1005 *G A1900 use of Minister of Railways frank on badly miscut envelope, minor edge fault.
