DEHIND THE SCENCES The P.C.D.S. Parent's Associarion is a volunrary group of active and hard working parents. In addition to hosting fund raising activities such as this year's Auction and Trash 'N Treasure Sale, the associarion provides numerous student support services. This year Parent's Associarion members organized a number of social activities, including the Pot Luck Dinner and parent coffees. The volunteers add a great deal in making life at P.C.D.S. enjoyable for everyone!

UPPER SCHOOL MOVES INTO NEW COMPLEX The foil of 1982 marked the Upper School's flrsr y e o rh the new Perer S, Firestone classroom complex, with its much needed classrooms, ortrooms ond computer fodlity. Decorating offices and dossrooms, deveoping o network of paths to the central campus, constructing gathering spots rudsed away under nearby polo verdes, on have been a port of the moving-in process. With o few months, a stronger sense of on Upper School community became opparenr. The new campus provided students with an identity of their own, separate from the Lower ond Middle Schools.

VISUAL ARTS The Arr Department seeks ro provide students with a broad curriculum in two and three dimensional studio courses, as well as, Arr History. The new upper school complex has given the department appropriate facilities for the first rime in the schools history. A new darkroom, painting and drawing studio, ceramic and sculpture studio, and an inclosed patio provide students with space and equipment ro visually express their ideas. Independent thinking, creative expression, and a willingness ro experiment are encouraged. Students also participate in regional and national scholastic arr competitions. This year the department invited its first guest artist ro reach an intensive water color workshop during the New Horizons Program.

On rhe first day of rroining or even by rhe fifrh game of rhe season wirh a record of 0-3-2, who would hove rhoughr rhe soccer ream would come so close ro ploying in rhe srare championship. The ream was full of porenrial and demonsrrared a volarile combinarion of efforr and skill. However, due ro some bad luck and a few roo many misrakes, rhe ream was unable ro secure a place in rhe playoffs againsr Judson. Many of rhe ream members made grear improvement rhroughour rhe season. Special menrion musr be mode of our senior players, Caprain Laurence Schreiber, Pere Snegireff, Eric Hagsrrom, and Par Boskon, all of whom provided a solid base and excellenr leadership qualiries. Despire rhe loss of Cliff Smirh ro injury, sophomores Perer Cove, Rob Porrnoy, and John Snead amply represented rheir dass. Finally, freshmen Andy Shanken and Chuck Bain showed much maruriry of judgemenr and skill. The ream is young. SEASON RECORD 6 wins- 12 losses This year rhe Eagle Girls Varsity Basketball ream was a very young ream. Made up of mostly underdassmen. The hustling Eagles showed im provem ent as rhe season progressed. Learning rhe fundamentals of basketball was an im portant part of their season. Next year, wirh most everyone returning, rhe future looks bright for rhe Eagles. The ream was coached by Tom Cove.

The Eagles basketball ream finishes the season on a positive note by winning two of their last three games. The Eagles were a young ream, consisting mostly of freshmen and sophomores. Early in the season, starter Cliff Smirh suffered a knee injury which rook him off the ream for the remainder of the season. Highlights of the season were o 03 point game by Senior guard, Ken Snodgrass. Another Senior member who pur forth super effort was Neal Alagia. Next year's ream will be more experienced, os well os, more competitive in conference ploy.

CHEERLEADERS The 1982-83 school year was rhe down of a new era of spirit or P.C.D.S. With uniforms donated by Mrs. Snodgrass and nine energetic young ladies interested in promoting spirit. Country Day cheerleading was renewed. The P.C.D.S. cheerleaders hove proved ro be a real asset ro our school. The squad has worked hard to promote pep ond enthusiasm for rhe success of our Varsity Sport Teams. Our cheerleaders are well-trained, hard working, and have a winning attitude.

NEW HORIZONS P.C.D.S.'s annual exercise in experienrial educarion- New Horizons- extended from March 4 ro March 14 this spring. "Learningby-doingâ&#x20AC;? guides rhe conrenr and format of rhe program. This year a number of experiences highlighted rhe ren-day event. Off-campus opportunities ro participate in an archeological dig in southwestern Colorado and a mule pack in rhe Superstition Wilderness joined rhe whale rrip off Daja and rhe congressional seminar in Washington, D.C. as popular offerings. In addition, New Horizons on-campus featured rhe Upper School's firsr visiting arrisr-inresidence, Mr. David Lang, Art Department chairman of rhe Middlesex School in Concord, Massachuserres. Mr. Lang conducted a week-long workshop in warercolor painting. The program generated interest and enthusiasm within rhe P.C.D.S. community and provided many opportunities ro broaden academic, career, and personal horizons.

Melissa Michaelsen has been acting for seven years. She starred our in New York City with commercials. Since rhen, she has acred in "Me and Max", "Goldy and rhe Boxer" and irs sequel, "Memories Never Die", and guesred in "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers". Melissa also won youth and film awards for outstanding performances in "Broken Promise" and "Orphan Train".

The Oprimisr Club honored Neal A lagia in science. Frederika Ranucci in Arr, and Cathy Sheridan in Lerrers.

Nel Harrison ranked fifth in rhe nation of rhe intermediate level, age 12-14, riding 25 miles. She has also been rhe stare champion for rhe last two years. Michael Grant has been skiing since rhe age of three. Over rhe years, he has trained extensively for racing throughout rhe cantons of Switzerland. In rhe United States, Michael has participated in such National races as N.A.S.T.A.R. and Super N.A.S.T.A.R.

Wendy Scurr and Dyann Fisher are lifers. They have been here since kindergarten.

Laura Daley has been horseback riding for seven years and practices approxi mately 12 hours a week. Laura has been reserve state champion in such contests as Western Pleasure and Bridle Path Hack.

Laurence Schreiber was rhe Nation al Chairman for education of rhe Na tional Conference of Synagogue Youth. Laurence was also a finalesr in rhe National Merit Scholarship Compe tition and Gemco's Economic Scholar ship.

Todd Dookspan ranked seventh in rhe nation in 1980 of rhe intermediate men's age group. Todd was also rhe 1982 Stare Champion of rhe 12-14 age level, racing 34 miles. Lisa Dienstock ranked sixth in Phoe nix in rhe Dust Devil finals. She was also Stare Champion among rhe inde pendent schools and champion or John Gardners Tennis Camp.
