Blue M il G o ld Blue and Gold Day is a time for spirit and fun, encouraging a sense of competition with rival schools. Students are split into two teams, blue and gold, whieh compete against each other in activities, such as the tricycle race and sit-down-volleyball. Our mascot, T hunder the eagle, m akes a special appearance with the Judson Cougar. The students cheer Thunder on by wearing their appropriate color and painting their faces. In the afternoon, all school teams compete against Judson. By the end of the day, after the games, families attend the booster club picnic where they eat, listen to a performance of the school band, and watch the fireworks. It is a great day!

Top: Mrs. Madden strikes a pose with the Eagle. The rowdy lower school shows their Blue and Gold pride. Erica Worthington has her face painted to show he spirit.

W e will miss yo u ... Your guidance has led PCDS to an even stronger and brighter future, illuminating our own strengths while reflecting your deep personal commitment to our community. The countless hours you have spent, your passions, your strength of character, and your insights will remain behind and continue to touch us all. Your effect has been profound: • doubling of the endowment • increasing the School population by 30% • expanding the School by the addi tion of the new classroom building in the Middle School and a new science complex in the Upper School • developing the wash into beautiful playing fields • increasing the calibre of the Upper School by tightening the curriculum and hiring excellent faculty.

"These are the days - - yours and mine. They will be what we make of them."

For me and for members of the PCDS Class of '95, these are exciting days )f work, celebration, remembering and planning ahead. As we focus on inishing our respective years at PCDS, leaving close friends, familiar places md activities and moving on to experiences which will hold many unknowns or each of us, we must also interact with and contribute to the world at large. Each day brings word of new theories about such topics as the age and nformation of the universe, the growing hole in the ozone layer, voice :ontrolled computers, the correct diet to prevent illness and stave off aging, levastation in Bosnia and Rwanda, advances in genetic engineering in both )lants and animals, exploration of the deep or increasing crime and lomelessness. You, as seniors, have begun studies to be continued in college md beyond to help you become effective world citizens able to make wise >ersonal and public decisions. In addition, you have taken time to reach into he community and serve others less fortunate. Store, within you, as I will, the knowledge, friendships and experiences gained here at PCDS and build on them. Join me in looking forward to a :hallenging future. These are the days - - yours and mine. They will be what ve make of them. 17

DR. CAGS THIS ONE'S FOR YOU!! I You have brought frantic enthusiasm and pure spunk to our school. The everpresent possibility that you may someday dance again, adds an air of excitement to all our music assemblies. Your "Stand and Deliver" attitude has shown us in math and in volleyball that dedication can pay off. This school will never be the same. Mafia Man! Mr. Commitment. Thank you for all your hard work, dedication and spirit.

The Lower School at Phoenix Country Day includes Pre-K through 4th grades. These grades incorporate their own uniqueness and creative spirit into their everyday activities. Laughter and energy are the essential ingredients upon which the Lower School thrives. The Lower School contributes wholeheartedly to any special events or projects that the School sponsors; one of the things that students and teachers look forward to on Blue and Gold Day is the enthusiasm of the Lower School, with their blue and gold outfits. Sometimes, they even appear with blue faces and gold hair!!! The Lower School students always have radiant smiles and sunny attitudes which give PCDS an exuberant element of success.

There are many opportunities for the lower school students to pursue their interests. The lower school swimming program is one of the areas that many of the lower school students choose to explore. After school, Coach Dan Majeski meets with the lower school swim足 mers twice a week. The students begin by learning three major strokes and then they spend their time practicing them. Coach Majeski also ensures that his students learn the importance of water safety. At times, the dedication that these students place in the sport rivals that of Olympic trainers. That does not mean that these little "fishes" do not take time to enjoy them足 selves. On the contrary, the students claim that the lower school swimming program is a great place to meet new friends. These swimmers can often be seen splashing around and frolicking with their friends in between breaks.

T he Lifers

They've survived thirteen years of trials and tribulations. Meal after meal of cafeteria food, exciting trips to study oceanography and to conquer ropes courses, endless homework assignments, one too many trips to Salome, Arizona for sports games, and watching PCDS grow and expand are only some of the infinite experiences they've had here at PCDS. These students have survived it all, and are still here to tell about it. Congratulations, Hallie, Ravi, Hollye, Ashley, Stuart, and Brad!

What? The wash grew chairs?? The wash was converted into playing fields.

The addition of the new science building made learning just a little more exciting.

The Middle School building was completed just in time for the 1994-1995 school year.

S e n io r S peeches There is one common topic of conversation among the seniors at PCDS each year —Senior Speeches. The Senior Speech at PCDS has become one of the most interesting and rewarding experiences with which a student leaves PCDS. Not only does the senior gain from this experience, but fellow classmates and teachers learn things they never knew before. This year's speeches ranged from vigilantism, anger, The Doors, living with illness, reincarnation, to moutaineering. Everyone in the Senior class did a wonderful job. So, Juniors, despite the initial feeling of petrifying nervousness, the senior speech really isn't all that bad. It's actually kind of fun.

The Poster Club is a new addition to PCDS extracurricular activities. These students, along with their advisor, Ms. Garfield, use their creativity to design posters and art boards for all kinds of occasions. Their marks can be seen all over the school whether an advertisement for the school play or just a splash of color to encourage school spirit.

The yearbook is an extra-curricular activity which often meets several times per week and on weekends. The time and energy put in by these students is truly commendable.
