During the 12 months of the 2018-2019 fiscal year, you donated $801,876 to the Annual Fund, $706,991 to the Individual Tax Credit, and over $2.4 million to the Corporate Tax Credit. Thank you so much! The Annual Fund is the backbone of philanthropy at Phoenix Country Day School, bridging the gap between tuition and the cost of each student’s experience at PCDS. It touches every aspect of our students’ lives—from academics to arts to athletics. And the Tax Credit supports nearly 25% of PCDS students whose families need financial aid to make a PCDS education possible. Without your support, we simply couldn’t remain one of the nation’s best schools—our heartfelt thanks to each of you for your commitment to PCDS in all its forms. Alumni Scholarship Fund Last school year, the PCDS Alumni Association launched its new IMPACT initiative in New York City—one of our most active alumni hubs—and the rollout continued at IMPACT events in San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Phoenix.

HOW IT WORKS There are two Arizona Private School Tax Credit Programs that help fund PCDS financial scholarships. Individual Program: • Redirect a portion of personal Arizona tax liability to a Student Tuition Organization (AISSF) in support of the PCDS financial aid program. • Participants, in turn, receive a dollar-for-dollar tax credit against their Arizona income taxes. • There is a maximum amount for 2019: $2,269 (married filer) and $1,135 (single filer). Corporate Program: • Any Arizona “C” or “S” corporation can redirect their corporate tax obligation to a private school of their choice (PCDS) to help fund need-based scholarships. • Corporations, in turn, receive a dollar-for-dollar tax credit against their AZ income taxes. • There is no maximum contribution amount – just a minimum of $5,000 per company.

Talley Society In 2018, PCDS launched a group recognizing donors throughout School history whose cumulative giving to PCDS equals $25,000 and above. The new society of donors has been named the Honorable Mae Sue Talley Society, in honor of the visionary leader who spearheaded the creation of PCDS as the Valley’s premiere independent school in 1961. Mrs. Talley, who passed away in 2017, was a prominent Phoenix philanthropist and Arizona leader who, along with her husband Franz, served among the School’s original founders.

ENDOWMENTS IN ACTION: Korzay-Tashman Endowment The Korzay-Tashman Endowment was created in 2015, and a monetary gift is awarded to a PCDS faculty and staff member, in alternating years, who embodies core values such as integrity, loyalty, and hard work, and works selflessly and tirelessly to ensure that our School is the best it can be. Thus far, eight PCDS faculty and staff members have been gifted this generous award. In 2018-19, Matt Guthrie, Upper School History and English teacher, received the last of his faculty stipened honoring his 22 years at PCDS. Also in 2018-19, Eric Neufer, PCDS Information Resources Manager, was named the two-year staff recipient, honoring his strong commitment to PCDS for the past 29 years. Eric states, “It’s great to be recognized. Gifts of securities include not only publicly traded stocks, but gifts of mutual funds, Treasury bills and notes, corporate and municipal bonds, and stock in non-publicly held companies. PLANNED GIVING By making a planned gift, donors can leave a legacy, whether through a tax-advantaged life income gift or through a bequest.
IRA CHARITABLE ROLLOVER Individuals who are 70.5 and older are able to make a tax-free gift (up to $100,000) from their individual retirement account (IRA) directly to PCDS without subject to income taxes on the distribution. Many PCDS grandparents and former parents consider this option.
