Welcome Dear PCDS Community: We are pleased to report that the 2016-17 school year was outstanding in so many respects—our students excelled in the classroom, in the athletic arena, on the stage, and through service-learning opportunities. With grateful hearts we thank you, our generous parents, grandparents, alumni, faculty, staff, and friends, for going above and beyond with gifts to the Annual Fund, Tax Credit, and THRIVE campaign. In 2016-17, PCDS raised a total of $4,298,540 in annual giving (Annual Fund + Tax Credit) and we are close to crossing the finish line of the largest comprehensive capital campaign in our history, THRIVE. Your generosity is a heartfelt expression of your commitment – THANK YOU! This Annual Report on Philanthropy allows us to recognize every member of our community who made a gift to the School between July 1, 2016, and June 30, 2017. Please know that our students, teachers, and staff join us in offering our sincere gratitude for your support. Go Eagles!

PARTICIPATION IS IMPORTANT Why? A high participation rate in the Annual Fund, regardless of the dollars raised, signals a strong and supportive community. Participation is important for our national rankings, and it shows that our community is pulling in the same direction. It also helps us secure outside funding.

When we make a donation to the Annual Fund, we make a difference in the lives of PCDS students. PCDS is an amazing school that I am proud to contribute to with my finances, time, and talents. Please join me in making a difference.” Pam Gagner, Kindergarten Teacher

HOW IT WORKS There are two Arizona Private School Tax Credit Programs that help fund PCDS financial scholarships. Individual Program: • Redirect a portion of personal Arizona tax liability to a Student Tuition Organization (AISSF) in support of the PCDS financial aid program. • Participants, in turn, receive a dollar-for-dollar tax credit against their Arizona income taxes. • There is a maximum amount for 2017: $2,177 (married filer) and $1,089 (singler filer). Corporate Program: • Any Arizona “C” or “S” Corporation can redirect their corporate tax obligation to a private school of their choice (PCDS) to help fund need-based scholarships. • Corporations, in turn, receive a dollar-for-dollar tax credit against their AZ income taxes. • No maximum contribution amount – just a minimum of $5,000 per company.

PCDS STUDENTS WITH FINANCIAL NEED

Thanks to the generosity of individuals and corporations, PCDS has been able to award over 150 scholarships each year to our most deserving and highest-need students. Nearly 1 in 4 students at PCDS receives a need-based financial aid scholarship and is supported for his or her entire PCDS career. 16

ENDOWMENTS IN ACTION: Schwimmer Family Endowment for Performing Arts The Schwimmer Family Endowment for Performing Arts was created to expose students across campus to music, dance, theater, opera, and film, helping students develop a coherent body of knowledge in the arts and fostering future artists, arts enthusiats, and patrons. In 2016-2017, the Schwimmer endowment enabled the PCDS 4th grade class to visit the Musical Instrument Museum six times—engaging each student through interactive play, drawing instruments, journaling about their experience, and attending performances that ranged from opera to jazz. It’s easy to give stocks and other marketable securities.

PLANNED GIVING

MATCHING GIFTS

IRA CHARITABLE ROLLOVER

Many companies offer matching gift programs to encourage employees to contribute to charitable organizations. Most of these programs match contributions dollar for dollar, and some will even double or triple the amount of your gift. Contact your employer’s human resource officer to find out the necessary steps to submit a match request.

Individuals who are 70.5 and older are able to make a tax-free gift (up to $100,000) from their individual retirement account (IRA) directly to PCDS without subject to income taxes on the distribution. Many PCDS grandparents and former parents consider this option.

22

By making a planned gift, donors can leave a legacy, whether through a tax-advantaged life income gift or through a bequest.
