Studying original Hollywood scripts and the films they went on to be, the children study the creation, structure and presentation of a working movie script, taking their thoughts through from idea, to characterization and setting, then finally, to the filming of their own scenes from the movie!
Working with small groups of up to 12 pupils, our intensive 12 week courses, delivered one day a week over a full term, aim to challenge each child to master each style of writing, and to develop new strategies for progressing through their personal writing targets. Using a range of amazing topics and movies, the children take part in visits and other practical activities, often with visiting professionals; all as they push themselves to be the best they can be!
Education is at the core of our mission here at Phoenix and part of our continuing commitment to not only screen world cinema and develop the artists and film-makers of the future but to give everyone a chance to learn new skills and increase their knowledge in a safe, enjoyable and professional environment. We work in tandem with artists of all disciplines and our exhibition programmes to provide workshops across a wide range of genres and subjects.
We also work closely with educators to tailor workshops and events that support and enhance their curriculum whilst still evoking the spectacle of cinema and developing new outlets for students’ creativity using modern technology.
