Although photographing herself, her images portrait somewhat fictional characters. Within soft and quiet light, there's a sense of struggle. In many modern middle class families, children would be regarded as angels - but ironically not always regarded as actual people. Deep down most of us dream of our little girl growing up to be a great person, sometimes even a goddess. Then again, a child has a mind of her own. When an Angel grows up, would she become a goddess ? In reality, we all know the answer. By having this great expectation, with all good intensions, it usually killed someone or something in the process. And in this series of photographs, Chanikan begins to explore the issue.

Vasucha Booncharoen also portraits herself as a main character. In her photographs, upper part of her body is covered in a plastic bag wherever she goes. It's a simple, perhaps laughable idea of self preservation, especially when appears in photographs. However, Vasucha takes the idea seriously, naturally that crappy plastic bag becomes a private - or even a sacred space. Elegantly, she moves from place to place with her plastic shield, cutting off from the world around. At the same time, one can feel that her self protection, her sacred space is as vulnerable.. with or without.
