Launch Issue

Fixer

Featuring: Emily Dews Last Rogue Clothing + More

We meet up with the up and coming London rapper

Hello and welcome to the very first issue of Phushion magazine. We started the magazine as a way to incorporate several different creative medias and give them free exposure to their existing fans as well as potential new fans. We felt there wasn’t a magazine that did this for these three genres.

Facebook.com/DarcyOfficialUK YouTube.com/DarcyOfficialUK Darcylake@live.co.uk

The magazine will include people and companies from all over the UK with a wide range of skill level and noteriety. The name Phushion comes from all three of the genres. The Ph is from Photography, the u is from Music and the shion is made up from Fashion. The magazine is made for photographers, musicians, models and clothing companies to show off their work. In this issue we have interviews with Corey ‘Fixer’ Spearman, Emily Dews and Last Rogue Clothing, as well as some great photographers, musicians and clothing companies. We would love to hear from you whether it’s about a specific issue or feature or even if you would like to be included in a future issue. You can message or email us;

Jamie Craig

8

My name is Jamie Craig. I am a Fine Art, Fashion and Glamour Photographer based in South East England. I shoot both editorial and advertising on top of running my own personal projects. At just 21 years old, my view through the lens is fresh and where possible I endeavor to do something different and not conform to the styles of every other photographer before me. I got into photography as part of becoming a volunteer on a heritage railway, (I am not a trainspotter!) and developed my understanding and passion for the art form through studying at A level. Once I had caught the photography bug I decided that this is what I wanted to do as a career as well as becoming an artist. I studied photography at the University of Kent and have since worked on advertising shoots, local family and baby shoots and stepped into my comfort zone by developing model’s portfolios. My online following through my blog and social networking sites is kept up to date with my work and through this I have met some great people, some of those still work for me today! My most successful finds online have been my make up artist, who comes on many of my shoots and a wardrobe stylist who is regularly published in ‘Vogue’ UK and Italia. This year is looking promising so far, I have worked with a Latvian fashion designer, a steam train and conducted a few expressive, alternative glamour shoots. I use a local studio that is always there for me when I need it, providing me with the space and the tools to really create something different. I am looking for models to collaborate with for some of my Fine Art projects with the view to having some more shows and gallery exhibitions a bit later on in the year. Many of my works are available at my website, www.jamiecraigphotography.com

Emily Dews

10

My name is Emily Dews, I am a photographer based in Kent. I absolutely love my job. I get a thrill out of making people smile and feel good about themselves. I like to believe that by taking a single photo I am capturing a moment in time that somebody can cherish forever and look back on once the moment has been forgotten, bringing that memory back to life again. Photography has lead me to meet many interesting people, I specialise in portraiture, particularly beauty and fashion however I am happy to photograph most things. I am a very creative person and very passionate about what I do. I work both within the studio and on location and in addition to being a Photographer, I am also a Retoucher and I tutor people in Photoshop. If you’re interested in booking a photo shoot with me, or if you would like to book some Photoshop lessons; look no further. Leoni-May Herbert

I am a freelance Photographer currently in my second year studying Digital Photography at Ravensbourne University in London. I have been strongly involved in art, drawing and also playing around with a camera from a young age. I began to develop more of an interest in photography whilst studying for a BTEC National Certificate in Art and Design, but it wasn’t until I started my Foundation Diploma that I began to specialise in this area more. It was then that I knew that I wanted to take it up professionally.

14

Since then I have focussed on portrait and fashion, with some photo journalism, events coverage and weddings. In September 2012 I had the privilege of photographing at London Fashion Weekend at Somerset House. This event in particular confirmed for me something I had felt for a while, that fashion photography was definitely the path I wanted to take. Another passion of mine is music, I am currently trying to get my foot in the door of live band photography, I would love to be able to combine the two.

15

David Willis - Photographer From a young age I can remember my Dad always having a camera to hand. I was often allowed to play with the spare point and shoot 35mm and box brownie that he had. As time went on and I got older, my creative side developed more and I ended up going to college and completing a diploma in graphic design. During this time I rediscovered photography as part of my course but after leaving college and beginning my working life this fell to the wayside. To the present, and in early 2011 I took the plunge, bought a DSLR and enrolled on a adult education photography course. I was hooked from that moment and even now i’m constantly learning new skills, looking for new inspiration and soaking up as much knowledge as I can. Although this is currently a part time role I always strive to be the best I can and try to work with the best people possible who share my passion and who I can learn from. I love shooting fashion, beauty. editorial and portraiture and would love to one day see my work in print in a major magazine.

Laura Wolfie - Singer

Photography - Flicky (Both Pictures) Venue - Concrete. Shoreditch, London (Both Pictures)

20

Laura Wolfie, a young new artist coming out of the UK. From an early age Laura has combined her passion for songwriting and producing to create a fresh new edge to Hiphop involving characteristics off R&B, Pop, Grime & Garage.
Her songs engage the listener as they re-live some of the experiences and situations Laura has seen and been in. She also uses metaphoric wording and catchy melodies so it appeals to the masses.
Laura is currently studying and gigging frequently in London and releasing her mixtape “Who Cried Wolfie?” in early March.
This will be the first release ever to be had of Laura Wolfie and I’m sure we can expect some old school UK Hiphop sounds layered with soulful vocals embellishing poetic and heart felt stories.

Correy ‘Fixer’ Spearman We Catch up with up and coming rapper Fixer to talk about him and his brand new CD which is called ‘Insight’ How did you decide on your name? It’s a funny story actually, my Dad used to own a game shop, he still does actually, and at school people used to come up to me and be like oh your that fixer kid right? Your Dad fixes Xbox’s and Playstation’s, and I was like yeah that’s me, and it’s just stuck from there. How long have you been rapping for? I’ve probably been rapping since probably year 8, but not on a serious level, so I’ve probably only been rapping for about maybe 2, 3 years. As well as rapping do you produce any of your tracks? I don’t, I can’t use the software to be honest! It’s so complicated. Anyone that can produce is amazing, me I just can’t do it, I can’t play anything either. Who has been an inspiration to you and your music? Erm, my biggest inspiration is my life, my life is what I write about mainly. I don’t really talk about ‘I’m a gangsta’ or anything like that ‘cause I’m not, It’s not me. Artists wise theres a guy called Zuby who goes from city to city and promotes his music. He’s sort of helping me out at the moment and hes a big inspiration to me. Other people; Labrinth I went to go see live and was just blown away by what he can do, it’s just amazing. Just people that are real to be honest. Do you think that your style has come from listening to those people? Yes and no. Yeah ‘cause I listen to them a lot so I suppose it does make me sound something like them, but no because I’m very original. I rap how I speak I don’t put on an accent, I just I sound like this and this is what I am. Have there been any obstacles in your career? If so how have you gotten over them? Yeah I was part of a group called A.G. Fly. We just broke up so becoming a solo artist has been difficult for me. I didn’t realise how hard it was to find out who likes you and who doesn’t like you, who’s actually there as a supporter and who’s just there for the other people. I suppose I overcame it by just being me and finding out who’s real and who’s not.

22

23

‘Insight, the CD is about me, it’s in an insight to my life’.

24

If you could perform with anyone who would you and why? I’d perform with Eminem, he’s amazing, talented, he has just got the whole package really. He’s just everything any rapper would want to be. What venue would you perform with them at? The O2, it’s my local so I would love to sell that out. Who have you been listening to recently? Well I’ve been listening to Wretch 32, I listened to his black and white album. I listened to it when Giggs got out of prison, I have listened to a lot of his stuff as well. I get inspiration from other people as well, so I listen to them. Also Labrinth, Emili Sande, Zuby, ShaoDow, also a couple of local artists as well. Tell us about the new CD ‘Insight’ why did you call it Insight? Insight, the CD is about me, it’s an insight to my life. It isn’t pop rap, it isn’t party tunes, it is strictly about me. It’s what I’ve been through in the last 2 years, what I’ve done, how I’ve overcome things and stuff like that, and I just thought insight was the right name for it. Have you got any collaborations on there? I’ve got a tune called ‘Be Mine’, it’s been out for a while with a girl called Yolanta, she’s an amazing artist, she was part of my group A.G. Fly. Apart from that no, I’ve got someone that sung a couple of the hooks but it’s just me. Where can people get hold of a copy of the CD, is it available for download as well? You will be able to get it from the link in this magazine, on the website and on everything like Facebook and Twitter. Can we expect to see any videos for any tracks off the new CD? Yes, definitely theres a track called ‘Story’ on there that I definitely want to shoot a video for, I’ve just got to get the right person to do it, and theres a track called ‘Get Back Up’ and ‘Reality’ those 3 are probably the ones I would have videos for. Will you be gigging to promote the new CD? I’m gonna try and gig as much as possible, anyone that wants to book me can get at me and I will be there, as long as you’re helping me out I’ll help you out. Where can people find your music, do you have Twitter or Facebook? Yeah, follow me on Twitter @McFixer. Find me on Facebook Mc Fixer, Youtube I am Mc Fixer. Also on Soundcloud Mc Fixer.

Atlantica We caught up with post-hardcore band Atlantica for an interview and an insight into what there about... Where are you based/from?
We’re based in Maidstone/Deal in Kent. Who started the band? Harri: Oh thats a story. It started with Sam F wanting to start a metalcore band years and years ago. 5 years, 3 name changes and gradual lineup adjustments later and here we are. How did you decide your band name? Harri: I named the band after spending weeks looking for something deep and meaningful. In the end, I came up with Atlantica after seeing a racehorse named Atlantic. I added an A on the end because it sounded more artistic and poncey. There’s nothing more to it than that. Sam F: Basically we spent the best part of a year trying to agree on something, came up with Atlantica and thought ‘Fuck it, that’ll do’.

26

Who has influenced you and your music? Dixon: I’ve always written about things that have happened to me, experiences and emotions. The deeper I look into things the harder I find it to write about them. I like to keep things raw and simple, if I feel a certain emotion is dying to be let free I will write my lyrics around it. Sam F: I listen to a ridiculous variety of music, anything from soul to jazz to trance to death metal. So I take my influences in writing our tracks from all over the place, but main influences for me would be the post-hardcore and metal bands I grew up listening to, like Funeral For A Friend, Killswitch Engage etc. I take a lot of influence from modern melodic hardcore bands like Climates and Counterparts too. What venue would you most like to perform at? Sam B: There’s so many places I’ve always wanted to play. I always used to want to play at Tunbridge Wells Forum, and then we managed to play there, and it was such a great experience. I’d love to play The 100 Club. Dixon: I agree with Berry I’ve always wanted to play the 100 club but on a bigger scale. I’d love to play the Brixton Academy, maybe one day. Sam F: I’d also love to play Brixton, most of the best shows I’ve been to were there. Including when I saw A Day To Remember and the whole venue pretty much became a pit. I’d love for my band to be able to do that! How did your collaboration with Wrecked & Worthless clothing company come about? Harri: Haha! Well, as usual this is because I’m a cheeky git. We had just started out and hadn’t even released our EP yet. We had a rough and ready demo and were so painfully green. I messaged G at W&W asking him to check us out and saying how we loved his clothing. He happened to dig our demo and we have been good friends with W&W ever since. Anything coming out in the next few months? We’ve just released band t-shirts on our Facebook page which we took our sweet time in getting produced. But they are on our online Bigcartel page, and we will also be selling them out in shows. We’re also discussing the possibilities for other merchandise but more importantly we have a new E.P out in March! That’ll be up for free download on our Facebook page, alongside the There and Back Again EP. Watch this space!

Mr Iron Lung

28

One of the hardest working people on the scene, Mr Iron Lung began his career in 1998 as a DJ and Producer in the London pirate and internet radio scene. At that time he was designing rave flyers for events such as “Southern Comforts”, “Conspiracy to Dance” and “Rags to Riches”, as well as various music labels. First picking up the decks as part of Upfront FM 99.3fm, his first show was 12 til 2 every Thursday, showcasing artists that included Paleface, Femme Fatale, Spidey G, Hatcha and Crazy D to name a few. In 2001 Upfront folded, so he moved on the Elite 92.5fm where Mr Iron Lung held the drive time show for a year, before joining Supreme 96.1fm. A jail sentence took him out of the game from then until 2004 when he made his return to the airwaves at Select Uk for 3 years, before a brief slot on a.w.o.l. From 2009 onwards he re-joined Supreme, then spending time at freshradiouk.com and to his current spot on visionradiouk.com. You can catch him there on Wednesdays, between 4 to 6 every week, Vision 88.4fm for London and surround areas or online at www.freshradiouk.com worldwide. Having played at virtually every club and venue across London, Mr Iron Lung now holds his showcase residency at Club Becket along the Old Kent Road. You can also see him performing at the Coronet for Ratpacks 25th Celebrations on the 29th March this year. His diverse DJ sets incorporate all UK genres, with a focus on DnB, Dubstep, Grime, 4x4 and UKG. As if all this wasn’t enough he has just finished a DnB EP with Flukey Smokes which will be released this summer . This isn’t the first time he has hit the studio though. Featuring on collaborations with the likes of Mic Righteous, Producer Preston and the likes of Airforce Music. On top of this he has still found time to remix some tracks for Dub All or Nothing and Excision. Mr Iron Lungs debut album “Giro Baby” is currently in the making and will be ready for release this summer. You can catch up with him @mrironlung on Twitter and mrironlung on Instagram. His Facebook fan page and Tumblr Mr Iron Lung, and email for bookings and promo releases is lungzie@live.co.uk.

Naomi Omuoreh - Musician I’m a 16 year-old singer/songwriter from Colchester, Essex. I’ve been playing acoustic guitar and singing from the age of 10, but have only started writing my own songs and accompanying myself on guitar in the past 2 years. I entered my first competition, Open Mic UK, in 2011, and made it through to the semi-finals. This was the first time I performed my own songs in front of a large audience, and I got a really good reaction from both the audience and the music industry judges, which encouraged me to continue with my song writing.

I entered a singer/songwriter’s competition, Live and Unsigned, in 2012, where I successfully auditioned along with hundreds of other musicians of all ages, and went on to compete against the other successful solo artists and bands in the region and came in the top 3 judges scores, making it through to the semi-finals. In this round I sang my own original song ‘Listen’ and a cover of ‘Numb’ by Linkin Park. I made it through to the National Grand Final which was held at the Proud2 venue in the O2 in London, where I performed alongside the most talented unsigned acts in the Nation.

30

At the Grand Final, I was spotted by a talent scout from Britain’s Got Talent who asked me to audition for their show. I successfully auditioned in November and made it through to the televised auditions which took place on 23rd January, where I performed in front of Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden, David Walliams and Alesha Dixon.

Nekros Appareal Having been inspired by Greek Mythology we decided to create a brand that reflected these stories and characters that represent some of the greatest tales the world has ever heard.

Our motto is that ‘We don’t cut corners.’ and we certainly haven’t cut any corners for our launch set of T-shirts. They are exclusive designs, all printed in high quality ink on top of the range T-shirts in a variety of colours.

38

All of our products are made from the highest quality materials and clothing to provide garments with longevity.

39

Swagstar Clothing Swag Star urban clothing company started out in April 2012. The creators were inspired by seeing celebrities in custom tee’s and tracksuits and wanted to make this accessible to everyone. Whether it’s tshirt’s, snap backs, polo’s or jumper’s that you’re looking for, Swag Star helps you to create a piece that’s as unique as you are. You can either use your own custom design or get a consultation with their in house designers for free. You can choose from mediums such as embroidery, heat transfer and spray paint to create your garment, their aim is that every client has a something unique.

40

Savito Clothing

How did you come up with the name? Originally we were unsure of a name. When I was designing the tees I used the word “Savito because I was doodling a few words and saw Savito as a variation of the word Savage. Once I had scanned it on and edited in Illustrator we felt it was perfect for the style of designs. What do you do? At the moment we specialise in tees, simply because we see it as a good starter. We definintley plan on bringing out a few new tees, we then may attempt to widen our line and branch into hoodies/crew neck jumpers. What else can you tell me about Savito Clothing? The company is run entirely by the two of us, Richie & Greg. Greg is extremely good at the computer end of things so looks after the designs, website and social media. While Richie looks after the more business end of things like the accounts, product sourcing and distribution.

42

What’s planned for the future? Before we even printed our first tee we were looking into producing a lot of unique stylish tees. At the moment we are planning to expand but it can be expensive being a start up! What can someone expect when ordering a product from you? Since we’re only starting and pretty small you can expect two things, good customer service and the satisfaction that comes with owning an independent company’s t-shirt. It’s not like buying a t-shirt from a high street store where you’ll see everyone else wearing it, you’ll be wearing a relatively unique item which you wont see others wearing and you’ll know directly where the moneys going. Everything we’re earning right now both through the company and our own jobs were putting back into production so we can expand the line as quickly as possible allowing our customers to have a greater selection of products available. Where can I find out more about Savito Clothing? We’re on Twitter and have our own website. The website still needs a bit of work but by the end of the week it’ll be up and running fully with a great layout. Check it out at www.savitoclothing.com and follow us on Twitter @SavitoClothing. We’ll be releasing all news through our Twitter. We’re also on Tumblr as well.

Take Me 2 Tomorrow

Take me 2 tomorrow are a small independent clothing range, who launched in the summer of 2012. The clothes are hand finished in Sussex and are aimed primarily at young people. We use a variety of techniques, such as acid washing, tie dyeing, screen printing and studding for unique effects; sometimes we even use a combination of these methods! It is also possible to have your item customised to make it 100% unique to you!

44

We aim to bring you fashionable, quality products at affordable prices. New lines are constantly being added, bringing you the latest designs. We started small, selling acid washed t-shirts to people in the local area, we then expanded with different techniques, before selling online. Buy our clothes here: http://takeme2tomorrow.bigcartel.com/ Or search takeme2tomorrow on ASOS marketplace.
