Born November 14, 1988, her love for fashion began at a very early age. As the youngest of three, she benefitted because her two older siblings were enrolled in a sewing program for children; not to be left out, she wanted to sew as well. In 1994, her parents established a fabric store, which allowed her to experiment, without restriction, with every possible type of fabric and texture. She also worked in the store, dealing with the sale of fabric, and by the age of 9, began to sew clothes for herself. While in high school, Phylicia dabbled in all things artistic, excelling in art classes and participating in an annual summer art workshop and exhibition held in Nassau. During her last three years in high school, she became well known for her recreation of the classic t-shirt, worn at school functions (when uniform was not required) or for other special functions. In a short matter of time, she found herself inundated with orders from school mates to re-design their t-shirts in the various styles that she conceptualized. This became such a trend at her high school and word spread to other schools in Nassau. As a result, she found herself designing for numerous students from other high schools throughout Nassau. When she made the decision to further her studies, she wanted to pursue a career which would allow her to continuously contribute to the fashion industry, one that she was completely in tune with. This led her in 2010 to complete her tertiary studies at Albright College in Reading, Pennsylvania, where she obtained a BA in Fashion Design. During this time, Phylicia ensured that she was well-versed in all things fashion, working tirelessly in Reading with former industry professionals to perfect her technique and skills. She also shadowed a Bahamian designer and worked in luxury retail sales, while at home on breaks in the Bahamas. As she continues to grow in her fashionable life, Phylicia Ellis hopes to promote fashion as a lifestyle and use her work as an outlet for expression of this sentiment.

Phylicia Ellis’ fashion philosophy revolves around the concept of having fun and creating stylish pieces, whether the look is classic, modern, or edgy. Inspired by the natural curves of island women, she concentrates on complimenting these by creating pieces that are simply and stylishly flattering, yet comfortable and easy to wear. Having coined the phrase, “Fashion has no rules once there is style”, Phylicia Ellis feels that fashion is one’s true voice of expression, where there can be no right or wrong. As trends emerge and fashion evolves, she continues to experiment with vibrant colors, smooth textures, and unusual fabrics in an effort to create designs that challenge the status quo.

After designing and sewing for a number of years for a small client base, Phylicia Ellis quickly introduced herself to the local and international fashion industry, leaving a lasting impression. Recognized as one of the youngest participants at 20, Phylicia Ellis officially launched her self-titled nd line and first collection at the 2 Annual Islands of the World Fashion Week, held November 2009, in Nassau Bahamas. The designer has been featured in international shows, such as the Fashion Group International Fashion Show, and other publications, such as th Seventh on 13 , the Albright College Fashion Department newsletter. Since the official launch, the designer and her Brand have been highly sought and recognized. She has been featured in international publications, such as Factio and Ocean Style magazines. Factio Magazine has also recognized Ms. Ellis in a video interview and recap of the Islands of the World Fashion Week presentation, which is available via the website. In addition to this international recognition, she has been featured in online publications such as the Caribbean Fashion Style Journal, which dubs itself the “Voice of Caribbean Fashion”, and the CS Perspective, a blog whose mission is “to keep the world abreast of the latest in music, technology, lifestyle and fashion. Known for her feminine silhouettes and trendy fascinators, she has also been featured in local events and publications, such as the Bahamas Gems 2010 Calendar Launch event, thebahamasweekly.com and the Nassau Guardian. She was the feature and cover story of the 2010 Winter/Spring issue of the NuWoman magazine.
