District 7 Toastmasters Fall Conference program

Page 1

Welcome to Ready, Set, GROW! When a group of Toastmasters gets together, it’s going to be a good time. Today will be no exception. Today is all about you. To get the most from your conference experience, we encourage you to: • Network. The greatest asset of our organization is the people. There are Toastmasters here from all parts of our District. Meet, greet, and make connections with as many as you can. • Learn. There are a variety of educational sessions to choose from to help you build your communication and leadership skills. We’ll also see the best in our District in the Table Topics and Humorous Speech Contests. • Share. It’s been said that the best way to learn something is to teach it. Take the ideas, tips, and tricks you learn today back to your club. • Have Fun! Ralph Smedley said it best – “We learn best in moments of enjoyment.” Our keynote speaker, Johnny Campbell, a DTM and Accredited Speaker, is an expert in transitioning through change. What a great resource to help us navigate the pathways of change! We look forward to sharing this day of laughter and learning with you. Donna, John, and Emilie

Pathways 101 Cate Arnold, DTM

The electronic Pathways program is upon us. We are finally catching up with today’s world with opportunities to try new skills such as writing a blog or doing a podcast, with more direct instructions on preparing and giving speeches, and more focused evaluations. We face the conversion learning curve with a big challenge: how do we implement Pathways in our clubs effectively and enjoyably? In this session, we will talk about converting to new systems, discuss our club experiences so far, and consider how to encourage and aid our members in becoming comfortable and proficient with this new tool.

2:45-3:45pm

Finding Your Storytelling Voice

Leanna Lindquist, DTM & Phyllis Harmon, DTM Today we tell stories just as we did thousands of years ago before the advent of the written word. But why? Why are well-told stories so powerful? The simplest answer seems to be because storytelling works. Stories create and reveal emotions. Stories make it memorable. Stories make a point. In this session you will learn how to • Find your story • Craft your story • Tell your story
