A MESSAGE FROM LACMA CEO Gustavo Friederichsen

WE ARE READY When I started this article, my focus was “2022 in Review.” But as I wrote, and as I started discussing the theme with the LACMA physicians and team, it quickly became clear that, while we accomplished a LOT in 2022 — our Practice Makeover Initiative, the LACMA Solutions Portal, addressing gun violence as a public health crisis, doing more than talking about access to care as examples — there was an overwhelming sense that it was all in preparation for a reimagined LACMA and a 2023 that we are all very, very excited about!

COVID was such a challenging time for our physicians. For the LACMA team, it provided a crash course in our tagline - You Take Care of Patients. We Take Care of You. We watched your perseverance and heroism in action every There was an day, and we learned overwhelming sense so much about what you experience. That that it was all in has served to renew preparation for a reimagined LACMA, our commitment and determination to serve and support you in new and a 2023 that we and innovative ways. are all very, very Marching into the excited about! new year armed with those lessons and your inspiration, we have made perhaps our most impactful investment to date. LACMA is proud to be the lead sponsor for the groundbreaking Healthcare Burnout Symposium, February 23-25, at the UCLA Luskin Conference Center.

The lessons we learned watching you save lives and change lives during the pandemic while sacrificing your health and wellbeing led to a fairly easy response: what can LACMA do to help physicians?

WE ARE LISTENING We continue to partner with our foundational partners like CAP and Aledade for example, while actively pursuing new partnerships in response to your requests.

Every Practice Makeover, every phone call, every zoom call, and every LACMA event conversation, the LACMA team is actively listening. When we hear your needs, concerns, and challenges, the entire LACMA team mobilizes to find new ideas, initiatives, and partners that can provide you with innovative solutions.

WE ARE GROWING Perhaps most inspiring is the growth we generated in 2022 that will propel us into 2023 and beyond, like the groundbreaking partnerships with Promise Health Plan and L.A. Care Health Plan and the expansion of a special relationship with AltaMed Health Services, the first Federally Qualified Health Center to sign a 3-year commitment with LACMA back in 2019.

And now, LACMA is ready. Whatever comes, we are bigger, better, and stronger than ever before. We are growing. We are adding new ways to support and serve our physicians as they serve their patients.

As we put 2022 behind us, we continue to look forward. In the wake of the pandemic, facing tremendous economic headwinds, we still persevered, delivered, and even grew with the potential for historic growth in 2023. I hope you continue to share with me how we’re doing, where we can improve, and, specifically, how I can do better as a leader. Your input, ideas, engagement, and membership and its aligned value are what ultimately drives LACMA, and for that, I thank you.
