PRESIDENT’S LETTER Omer Deen, MD FACG, AGAF

Some of the greatest medical minds in our field joined us on November 4th at the 10th Annual Los Angeles Healthcare Awards. As you will see on the following pages, that evening served as an incredibly inspiring demonstration of the impact physicians and healthcare-related organizations are having across the county every day, in a wide variety of ways.

As we gathered again in person to honor these healthcare heroes, I engaged in meaningful conversations with the physicians in attendance, and a common theme quickly began to emerge. In conversation after conversation, it became clear that the past two-and-a-half years have demonstrated how vital the Los Angeles County Medical Association is to our community and all of Southern California.

LACMA’s extraordinary support of healthcare heroes across the county throughout the pandemic, and continuing still today, clearly served to remind the physician community of the true value of their LACMA membership. our care for countless reasons we know all too well.

It also turned the focus away from many other topics and crises that are so vital to our profession. As a community, we must address everything from access to care, medical provider burnout, gun violence as a public health crisis, Medicare and Medi-Cal parity, and forging vital relationships with medical organizations.

As physicians, we are bombarded with legislative changes and regulatory and procedural challenges impacting how we can best serve our patients, staff, and co-workers.

These are just some of the reasons why a strong LACMA with a committed membership is better for our profession, for These are just some our patients, and for our of the reasons why individual practices. a strong LACMA All this and more are with a committed debated and dealt with at our LACMA board membership is better meetings. We are also extending those discounts to their key staff. If you think Taylor Swift and Hamilton are hot tickets, wait ‘til you experience a LACMA Board meeting! THAT is the “room where it happens!”

LACMA and CMA represent the voices of more than 44,000 physicians throughout our state, although LACMA membership currently stands at just under 7,000. That’s a good number, but we stand so much stronger when we stand together.

COVID threw all of our lives – and the lives of our patients --- into a blender that was switched to its highest speed. As allencompassing as it became, it did not eliminate other medical conditions. But it made patient care harder for us and those in And if coming to a meeting doesn’t work for you, we also encourage sharing your points of view in writing.

LACMA is a vital resource. We know better than anyone else what is needed to provide the best care. As united LACMA members, we can and must advocate for best practices and needed change.
