By Hazel F. Gloria CEBU CITY, (PIA) -- The Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) in Region 7 has officially launched the new Z benefit package for members suffering from breast cancer, acute lymphocytic leukemia for children, prostate cancer and kidney transplant at the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC) in Cebu City. PhilHealth-7 Public Affairs Head Atty. Karisma Agraviador disclosed this during the Association of Government Information Officers (AGIO) Forum held July 24. “The Z benefit package” could be availed of by members and beneficiaries of the health program who are diagnosed with any of the four cases,” Agraviador added. In the Visayas, PhilHealth accredited only VSMMC because of the required facilities and equipments in providing medical treatments for both breast cancer and
kidney transplant. The hospital is also capable of meeting the package cost of the said illnesses. Meanwhile, Dr. Avril Tiu, Medical Specialist, Benefits Administration Section explained that under PhilHealth’s Type Z package, breast cancer patients get a P100,000 subsidy while kidney transplant is subsidized by P600,000. With regards to the sponsored members such as the indigents or registered under the National Household Targeting System for Poverty Reduction (NHTS-PR), they will fall under the “no balance billing” category which mean that they don’t pay a single centavo while the employed members will pay the excess amount under the fixed reimbursement system, Tiu added. This is only an initial offer to our members, and we are hoping for additional benefits in order to help them avail better and quality services in the future, Agraviador added.(PIA-7/HFG)

TACLOBAN CITY, Leyte, July 27 (PIA) -- The economy of Eastern Visayas in 2011 as measured by the Gross Regional Domestic Product grew by 6 percent if measured in current prices, and by 1.8 percent in real terms using constant prices. This was the statement of NEDA-8 Director Bonifacio Uy during the news conference on the 2011 report of the National Statistical Coordination Board (NSCB) held on Thursday at the Ritz Tower de Leyte, hosted by NSCB-8 and moderated by PIA-8. The 1.8 percent real economic expansion of the Region is lower than the Plan target of 5.26 percent for the year, Director Uy said. He, however, told the local media this is not really very poor performance considering that the country and at least 10 other regions missed their respective growth targets in 2011. The service sector registered the highest growth of 4.1 percent while agriculture, hunting, forestry and fishing and the industry
sector grew slightly by 0.07 percent and 0.04 percent, respectively. The Industry sector continues to be the dominant sector in Eastern Visayas contributing 43 percent to the GRDP, Uy said. This sector, according to him, holds the fastest growing sub-sector for the past two years. This, he said, is the Mining and Quarrying, with a tremendous growth of 62.3 percent in 2011. The major mineral products are chromite and magnetite from Eastern Samar and Leyte. The top contributor to the region’s economy is again the manufacturing sub-sector, accounting for a little more than a quarter or 26.3 percent of GRDP. Its 2011 Gross Value Added at current prices of about P60.8 billion is 4.6 percent more than its value in 2010. The economic stronghold of the manufacturing sub-sector still relies on the metals and chemical and heavy industries located at the Leyte Industrial Development Estate or LIDE. (PIA-8)
