vast and fertile land nestled at the foot of a verdant hill, the municipality of Molave was created on June 16, 1948 by virtue of Republic Act No. 286 authored by the late Congressman Juan S. Alano. On June 14, 1949, however, RA 286 was amended by RA 377 establishing its present location, boundaries and limits of territories. Its name was taken from a hardwood, the Molave tree which abounds in the place
during the early years. It is 37.94 kilometers away from Pagadian City, the provincial cap-

Visayas and Mindanao were attracted to this rich land in the Salug Valley area : Cebuanos, Boholanos, Ilongos, Ilocanos, LeyteĂąos and other ethnic groups. But the Subanens were known to be the early settlers of Molave. Today, Molave is the hub of commerce a n d trade in the easte r n part of the province a n d moving at a very rapid pace towards becoming the most progressive municipality of Zamboanga del Sur. Our story however, goes beyond the territories of Molave but it used to be a parcel of this prosperous town. Let me take you further, then. Seven kilometers from Molave is a place called Tuburan, which is now a part of Mahayag, Zamboanga del Sur. As the name denotes, it has boundless
water source and people have found a haven in this natural spring resort. Molave Vice Mayor Flavio J. Saniel Jr. beams with pride as he shared to us the story behind Eriberta Spring Resort, a very beautiful and precious legacy left by his parents : Flavio Sr. and Eriberta – where t h e name of the resort w a s culled. V i c e Mayor Saniel fondly recalls h i s childhood days. The youngest in a brood of 8, five of them were born and grew up in Tuburan, where the family owns 7 hectares of land. During that time, there was no road and they had to walk several kilometers just to go to school. He loved the water, so when it was time to take a pick on their share, he chose the water. What he had in mind was a retirement place 5

- - - just a perfect place to sit back and reminisce the beautiful memories kept inside the heart through the years. A recent visit to Australia made him envision this type of resort, where people would flock during summer because it’s much cooler than staying on the beach. He relentlessly pursued this dream and embarked on the arduous job of transforming Eriberta, so with an initial investment of P200,000, he opened Eriberta Spring Resort to the public in 2003. From that time on, the income it earned was invested in the resort for improvements and other amenities. He also planted several varieties of fruit trees in the area including mahogany and hopes to establish a park very soon. Foreigners are frequent visitors to Eriberta which is a very idyllic place. Add to it the cool and refreshing waters, it also has several pools and cottages with prices ranging from 100,200,500 and 700. The are also function halls for small groups as Saturday, August 27, 2011
well as a large one, the Flavio Hall which can accommodate 500 people, so ideal for gatherings, reunions and other similar activities. He gladly relates that there was one time that in just a matter of 16 days, he earned 200 thousand from the resort. He was really amazed at how things turned out! He uses the income earned for further development of the resort, which is now fast becoming a tourist attraction and an ideal place for families and people just wanting to unwind and let go of pressures from work. He looks forward to his retirement years, and surely, he will enjoy staying in this “heaven here on earth” place, enjoying the cool wind and the sound of rippling waterfalls. Add to that a mini-park and myriad of colorful fishes in a pond where one could feed them and appreciate the beauty of God’s creations in this place called Eriberta Spring Resort. For all nature-lovers, this is the place where you should be!

Palace says Phl-China energy exploration agreement should serve interests of both nations
M
alacañang said that any agreement between China and the
Philippines particularly on energy exploration should serve the interests of both nations.
It was reported that the Philippine government is working with China for an oil exploration agreement. President Benigno Aquino III leaves for China Tuesday for a five-day state visit there. “It’s still in the exploratory stage. We don’t know yet kung ano na ang details of the agreement. But certainly what we’ll be taking into consideration the interests of the parties. Mahalaga ay dapat talagang patas yung agreement to all concerned,” Presidential spokesman Edwin Lacierda said in a radio interview over state-run dzRB Radyo ng Bayan on Saturday. While the discus-
6
sions are still exploratory Lacierda said it is a good sign because it shows that both sides have interests for continued dialogue notwithstanding some disagreements between the two countries. “Multifaceted po ang relasyon natin with China and it shows that one of the facets of our relationship is the trade aspect. When you go to china, it will show our trade, our culture, our business and our ties with China. It’s a good sign,” he said. Aside from energy cooperation between China and the Philippines, Chinese Ambassador to the Philippines Liu Jianchao said this week that Chinese businessmen are also

interested in investing in the Philippines particularly through the publicprivate partnership (PPP) being spearheaded by the Aquino administration. Chinese businessmen are following closely the initiative of the PPP and they want to be involved in these projects, Liu said adding they are waiting for detailed announcement. President Aquino’s state visit to China could also open up a lot of opportunities for the Philippines, Liu said. China can provide the Philippines both concessional and commercial loans as the Asian giant economy expands its investments in the region. (as) Saturday, August 27, 2011
Malacanang says Phl-Japan relation remains stable
M
alacanang assured on Saturday that the Philippine’s relations with Japan remain very stable following the resignation of Japanese Prime Minister Naoto Kan.
In an interview over governmentrun dzRB Radyo Ng Bayan, Presidential Spokesperson Edwin Lacierda said “Our relations with Japan is very stable, we have a very competent and able ambassador there at tuloytuloy naman po ang ating relations with Japan.” The Aquino government, through Philippine Ambassador to Japan Manuel M. Lopez, reassures the Japanese government that the multifaceted cooperative relationship between the two countries will continue. “We will just wait Saturday, August 27, 2011
for their next Prime Minister. But apart from the resignation of their Prime Minister, the work continues, the relationship continues and we see no difference or we see no change in the relations between Japan and the Philippines.” Lacierda said over the radio. Japanese Prime Minister Kan announced on Friday his resignation as party leader during a meeting with members of the ruling Democratic Party of Japan. The party will elect next week a new leader who will take over as prime minister.
Last Friday, the parliament approved two bills. Kan said he believes the two bills -- the deficit-financing bond bill and the new energy promotion bill -- will push forward his reconstruction policies. Last March 11, Japan was hit by devastating earthquake and tsunami and subsequent nuclear crisis. The disaster triggered the worst nuclear crisis since Chernobyl, as cores overheated and spewed radioactive material into surrounding areas. (js)

PNoy’s supports RH bill, says Popcom chief by Franklin P. Gumapon DIPOLOG CITY, Aug. 27 - - Commission on Population (POPCOM) Executive Director Tomas Osias told the press in media interview in Dapitan City yesterday that the Reproductive Health (RH) bill has been one of the priority bills endorsed by President Benigno Simeon C. Aquino III to the Legislative Executive Development Advisory Council (LEDAC).
A media interview with POPCOM Executive Director Tomas Osias and GABRIELA Partylist Congresswoman Emmi de Jesus at the Dapitan City Cultural and Sports Center.
Osias underscored the importance of passing the bill for the country to have a national policy on population management and development. Contrary to what the critics of the RH bill are saying, Osias said the bill seeks to save life
and uphold the rights of the couple. Gabriela Partylist representative Emmi de Jesus, on the other hand, said the RH bill will champion the rights of the women as it assures them of greater and wider access to health services.
De Jesus appealed to the press to help disseminate correct information about the bill to the public. She said those who are opposed to the bill “have reduced it to the use of contraceptives and condoms, when in fact it is not.” Once passed into 20

a law, the RH will serve as the national policy on population management and development that will redound to the benefit of the poor sectors of the society. According to Osias the RH bill is not population control; it is more of population management, “giving a breathing space to accelerate
economic growth.” He also cited that the country today has around 98.5 million people with a population growth rate of 2.04 percent per year. “Given this growth rate, 2 million individuals are added to the population each year and this will hamper the government services due to lack of
resources, he said. Popcom chief Osias and Congresswoman de Jesus came over for a policy forum on RP-RH bill with the local chief executives, religious and civic leaders, academe, students and others as participants. (FPG/ PIA-Zambo. Norte)
317 OSCA members in Dipolog receive social pension
DIPOLOG CITY, Aug. 26 (PIA) - 317 of the more than 10,000 members of the Office of Senior Citizens Association (OSCA) in Dipolog City have already benefited from the government’s social pension program for indigent older persons for the first and second quarter of 2011. Mr. Cris S. Enoy, Operation-in-Charge of OSCA Center in Dipolog City, said the P500.00 monthly stipend is additional government assistance for indigent older persons as provided for under Republic Act 994, known as the Expanded Senior Citizens Act of 2010. The beneficiaries of the program are determined based on the result of the National Household Targeting System Survey which was conducted by the Department of Social Welfare and Development in 2009. According to Enoy, though Dipolog City has 367 slots for the social pension program for 2011, so far, only
20
317 indigent older persons have received their P500.00 monthly pension. 164 received their pension in the first quarter while another 153 beneficiaries were added during the second quarter. Enoy admitted that some pensioners have been discovered to be not qualified to avail of the program. He attributed this to the wrong data obtained during the conduct of the survey. However, he pointed out that the error has already been corrected as 7 unqualified beneficiaries were already removed from the list of beneficiaries. The program which has 138,960 total target beneficiaries for 2011, has a budget

of P870-million, to be shared among the regions. Because of the limited funding, the DSWD has decided to prioritize those older persons who are 77 years old and above to be given financial assistance for their personal needs such as food and medicine. Meanwhile, a team from the DSWD Regional Office 9, together with representative from Dipolog City Social Welfare and Development Office and OSCA are now going around the different barangays in the city to locate the six pensioners who have not yet received their monthly pension for the first two quarters of 2011.(ALT/ATR/PIA9Zambo Norte)

Military-media partnership indispensable, says Maj Gen. Coballes by Gideon C. Corgue PAGADIAN CITY, August 27 (PIA) – “The military and media are very important partners in promoting peace and development.” Thus declared 1st Infantry Tabak Division Commander Maj Gen. Noel A. Coballes during the TABAK Defense Press Corps’ (TDPC) induction ceremony and fellowship night at the Officer’s Club House, Tabak Divison headquarters, Camp Major Cesar Sang-an, Pulacan, Labangan, Zamboanga del Sur on Wednesday. Speaking before officers and members of TDPC, and to the officers and men of the 1st Infantry (TABAK) division, Coballes, the event’s speaker and administering officer said the military and media both have very important roles in promoting peace and development in the country. “Without the partnership of the military and media, the AFP’s objective of protecting the people and securing the sovereignty of the state can never be attained,” Coballes explained. Coballes was very glad that the officers and men of the 1st Infantry division maintain a harmonious relationship with the TDPC . “ We had been working together by providing our people a good and peaceful en-

vironment,” Coballes happily said. “Let us continue this partnership and share our common desire of disseminating the programs of the government to the people,” Coballes urged. The newly installed TDPC president, Leah D. Agonoy in her speech said the event was a symbol of strengthened partnership between the AFP and media. Agonoy said the media who serves as the 4th state and watchdog of our society is expected to be fair and unbiased. “The military, with its strengthened thrust to serve and protect the welfare of the people, will stand firm to deliver their duty to all Filipinos. With these differences in our duty, let us work on our commonalities. And that is to serve the people,” Agonoy said. She said the TDPC was created not to defend and protect the military from their misconducts and from the negative issues and controversies that come their way. “We were not created to serve as the spokespersons of the 1st Infantry Divi-
sion,” she explained. Agonoy assured the public that TDPC will serve as the bridge between the people and the officers and men of the military saying that “we are here to facilitate the information that you wanted to tell the people through our unbiased judgments on issues. We are here to serve as your partners in delivering the programs of the government purely for the welfare of the people,” Agonoy said. ”Expect our praises on the accomplishments that the 1st Infantry Division will have in the future. Also expect our criticisms on the misconducts of your men while we maintain our balanced reports and commentaries,” Agonoy said. Asst. chief of staff for civil military operations Lt. Col. Samuel L. Leria congratulated the officers and members of TDPC for their continued voluntary service to the media-army undertaking. Division public affairs office (DPAO) chief Capt. Arthur L. long activities that have been lined-up for the Aug. 28 city fiesta celebration, this year. “This could be due to the heightened Police visibility in strategic areas of the city where most people go, like shopping malls, and where the different fiesta events were held, like carnivals, competitions and shows, among others,” he said. He also thanked the augmentation forces from higher headquarters of the Philippine National Police (PNP), like the Police
Regional Office (PRO) region 10, mobile police forces, newly recruited Police Officers and students taking up Bachelor of Science in Criminology from some schools in the city for their help in manning their Police Visibility centers. “We would always like to prevent the crime from happening and letting the people feel the Police presence would surely help deter crime,” he said Again the COCPO Director advised the revelers, when they set out from their homes
to these areas, to bring just their essential things and not to wear so much jewelry that would invite the attention of the criminals to victimize them. In instances when the revelers would bring their children with them, they must see to it that somebody should take care and watch over the children so they won’t get lost in the crowd to avoid hysterics on the part of the parents, later on, Rosales added.
