WORK 2009-2013

This is a typical Chinese landscape painting, Including the mountains, water, blank, house, woods. This is a typical Chinese garden landscape, If the boundaries of the painting as a wall, then the house is pavilions, center of the pool, the pool in front of stones and trees. Wang Shu, a famous architect who won the Pritzker Architecture Prize, once said: "Narrow room[ 容 膝 斋 图 ]" means: if people can live in picturesque limits of scenario, the artist would rather make the house as small as possible. As for building a house, it just likes to build a small world and then everything within the boundaries is the full content of this architecture. So that as an architect, one should keeps a reasonable attitude towards the nature and world and has unique perspective thought and method to create a new world. In the school curriculum,In addition to landscape,I also try to practice the principle mentioned above by many other different mediums. Including architecture, urban planning, photography and fine art. The forms of expression may be different. but the inherent cores are obvious the exploration to link tradition and reality. This portfolio selects my four representative works in the foregoing fields.

With the development of China’s economy and technology, the changes of people’s lifestyle and the improvement of people living standards, the residences which were built in 1970s to 1980s has become the old, backward and high energy consumption ones and can not meet the requirement for people’s daily life. Therefore, it is necessary to make transformation for the old buildings to extend the use fixed number of year and improve their functions.

The teacher residence renovation site selected residence located in Xi’an Academy of Fine Arts which is a typical representative old building of the 1970s to 1980s. The reason of choosing this residence is that it is the boundary of Xi’an Academy of Fine Arts and Xi’an City and has the properties of both the residential and urban.

Daily living space focuses on the space’s cultural and social attribute which means a full range of interactive relationship between space and people. Daily living space can not only meet people’s needs and create a new way of life, but also can promote the rational distribution of urban public space and changes of urban social structure. Thus, its spatial pattern and evolution rules play an important role for urban public space system composition. Xi'

Site is located on the beside of Lake Chao. Lake Chao, one of China's five largest freshwater lakes, is located in central Anhui Province.

Eastern China

Design inspired by studies of Chinese gardens:

Said Mr. Tong Jun gardens such as painting. Every object, in fact, is just as it should appear in a painting. A Chinese garden is indeed a landscape painting in three dimensions, but like Chinese painting, it is subjective.

20

"If a visitor to a Chinese garden, after entering and before wandering too far, should pause(hesitation is wise, for he is embarking upon something not unlike an adventure),and by glimpses transcend space and volume and resolve the whole into one flat surface, he would be thrilled to realize how closely the garden resembles a painting. Before his very eyes stands a landscape, not drawn with the painter's brush, but a pictorial composition of arbor, brook and weeping willows unmistakably recalling that familiar pattern which one associates with a Chinese painting-the same crooked into a grotto. The visitor, by the way, could well be satisfied with just this much and turn away, leaving yet unseen the landscape beyond as new discoveries and new surprises for another day.For this reason, the past owner of a Chinese garden seldom lived in it and only occasionally paid it a visit. Well worth preserving was the distance that lent enchantment."

Xi'an University is a comprehensive university. The teaching building is the architecture with comprehensive function, modern modeling and some traditional Chinese elements in parts. The main characteristic of the building is the four sinking courtyard. For landscape design surrounded the school buildings, I took university's culture and ecological requirements into account to meet the requirement of teachers and students’ rest and exchange and also to improve the whole university environment. The design idea for the sinking courtyard taken from the ancient Chinese literati’s game:" 曲水流觞 "[(of a gathered crowd) drink water from a winding canal with one wine cup floating on it so as to wash away ominousness)]. I put it into the public furniture landscape structures. As long as the ground size is large enough, it can extend indefinitely. Based on the arc size and the different sitting position, the relationship between people is also different. The greater the arc, the relationship between people is more alienated. Just because of its vague forms, people can decide its usage ways according to their own ideas. This landscape structure and composition of the relationship between people is interactive. Completion of the design does not exist at the time of finished the work, but in the variety usages ways of people. A
