DTI holds leadership seminar for farmers by Laurence D. Pradia
MALAYBALAY CITY– Board of Directors and officers of five farmer-organizations, including its 29 group leaders, attended the Seminar on Basic Leadership held in Talakag town, Bukidnon.
Conducted by the provincial office of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in Bukidnon, through its Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program (CARP), the seminar focused on the seven leadership styles namely autocratic, democratic, bureaucratic, transformational, situational, transactional, and laissez-faire. Basic leadership characteristics were also shared to participants. DTI Provincial Director Ermedio J. Abang said the seminar aims to
apprise participants of their crucial roles and responsibilities to achieve success through good and effective leadership. The First Agrarian Reform Cooperative (FARBECO), CARP United Beneficiary MultiPurpose Cooperative (CUBMPC), Bagong Silang Development Farmer Association (BASIDFA), Cawayan Liguron Dagundalahon Farmer Association (CALIDAFA), and Ilaw Ta Dagumbaan Farmer Association (ITDAFA) also participated in the activity. Retired director of a government agency and currently a FARBECO BOD member, Saturnino Escobido, lauded the training organizers. “Among the three leadership seminars I attended during my stint in government service, this is excellent,” Escobido said. The seminar ended on a positive note where participants showed willingness to apply what they have learned—like inspirational leaders and sound managers—in order to achieve success in their respective organizations.
Agrarian reform coop to benefit from DTI 1.4 million SSF project MALAYBALAY CITY- Rubber semi-processor First Agrarian Reform Beneficiary Cooperative (FARBECO) received a P1.4 million worth of equipment from Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in Bukidnon, May 4. Granted through DTI’s Shared Service Facility (SSF) project, this million-worth equipment called “rubber macerator,” which is now housed at FARBECO Center in Talakag town, Bukidnon, will solve the current bottlenecks faced by the cooperative. DTI provincial director Ermedio Abang said FARBECO produces a product called Estate Brown Crepe (EBC), which are commonly used for soles of shoes and boots. Equipment supplier representative Florisimo Buenafe of the First and Finest Technology Corporation explained that the equipment functions to break the rubber cup lumps and latex and form them into a product called Estate Brown Crepe or EBC. EBC, which is sold higher than selling coagulated latex (commonly “cup lumps”), has been produced by FARBECO using their old and aged three units macerator provided by Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR). “With the normal wear and tear of the machines, the cooperative found it costly and non-promising, hence led us to taking advantage of DTI’s Shared Service Facility (SSF) Project,” FARBECO Manager and SSF Project Coordinator
Felix D. Nallano Sr. said. He said they viewed that the provision of said project will definitely improve the group’s productivity and efficiency. He even looked forward to a more lucrative business which will benefit 200 farmers as member-beneficiaries of FARBECO. This project is also seen to boost the farmers’ effort and give them a promising future tagged along with the presence of a local cup lumps and latex buyer, Felix added while observing the on-going test of the machine. “This project is indeed a members’ answered prayer and as the project cooperator trusted by DTI, we affirm our commitment to take care of the machine and ensure benefit will spread down to the farmer-beneficiaries across the municipality,” Felix further said. DTI said the SSF Project has continually been a proven business development strategy that improved MSMEs productivity through provision of machinery and equipment in a shared system. Housing this project in FARBECO proved once more how the government used such mechanism to sustainably achieve inclusive growth and job generation.(DTI Bukidnon)
