Local retail entrepreneurs must keep up with modern times, says PRA
CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – Local retail entrepreneurs must keep up with the modern times to succeed in the retail business as explained by a resource speaker and facilitator of professional retail management during the Philippine Retailers Association (PRA) store operations seminar in Cagayan de Oro City on 22 July.
Francis Dela Cruz said to retail owners and managers in region 10 during the 6th Store Operations Seminar that customers are changing and retail techniques are changing. Retailers must be open to change especially in ASEAN economic integration since this will involve free trade which will result to more competition and retail profitability. He said that there are only two desired results in a retail business: one is sales growth of at least 10% annually and achievement of sales or target plan. Managers and owners of retail outlets must be pro-active and ready. He said customers have evolved. Based on retail survey, customers nowadays are 50% millenials which are 25-26 years old. These are the working force of the world and they are the ones working and spending.
He said that it is important to have a change in mind set for business owners to be able to compete. Dela Cruz said to be able to be effective, an entrepreneur must have a customer ready store. This includes store clearing, readiness for employees’ arrival, standard grooming of personnel, clean and tidy store, readiness of merchandise, attendance and manning, morning energy booster and store facilities check. He further explained that customer interaction is so important to have a good customer experience and customer loyalty. This seminar is part of the regional roadshow of PRA in coordination of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) to enable business and compete especially in ASEAN economic integration. Misamis Oriental Governor Bambi Emano lauded Pres. Rodrigo Duterte’s announcement, made during his 1st State of the Nation Address (SONA), for a unilateral ceasefire against the CCP-NPA-NDF as key for lasting peace especially for Mindanao. It also means the development of the entire Mindanao and fulfillment of our desires in terms of tourism, said Emano. The comprehensive ceasefire is something been dreamed of by our brothers, especially in the countryside, whose livelihood often affected during the conflict, he said. The governor also explained that
the conflict in the countryside greatly affects in the delivery of services of the local government to the public. The conflict has affected the “out-of-budget” which further the plight of the local government. The establishment of lasting peace means that local governments can focus now on projects that would bring development to the areas threatened by the conflict. With the ceasefire, we may able to launch in Misamis Oriental the developments targeted by the provincial government, especially in those areas threatened by the conflict. (PIO MisOr/PIA)
