PNP readies equipment, personnel for disaster CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – Northern Mindanao Police Regional Office conducted a preparedness audit of all units particularly PNP personnel involved in search and rescue operations held at Camp Alagar grounds, July 28. The audit, which included an accounting of personnel and equipment, aimed to assess the capability, capacity and operational readiness of various sub-task groups
(STGS) of PRO 10’s disaster incident management task groups (DIMTGS) in responding to call during disasters and calamities. According to PSSupt Julito M
Diray, regional chief directorial staff, the audit of the PNP equipment is a preparation for the possible calamities. “This is for us to showcase our readiness,” he said. Further, he said a disaster event cannot be prevented but it can be mitigated. Mitigation can be improved if the people are better prepared, responsive and resilient. The primary goal of preparedness is to avert the loss of lives and assets due to threats and emergencies, said Diray.
He also said that Republic Act 10121 or the Philippine Disaster Risk reduction and Management (DRRM) Act of 2010 defines preparedness as the “knowledge and capacities developed by governments, professional response and recovery organizations, communities and individuals to effectively anticipate, respond to, and recover from, the impacts of likely, imminent or current hazard events or conditions.” (EOR/PIA)
