Modern nanays gear up for Hakab Na 2016
CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – The Modern Nanays of Mindanao (MNM) urges mothers, fathers and families to be part of Hakab Na 2016 on August 6, 9:00 a.m. in Limketkai Mall, Cagayan de Oro.
Hakab Na is the country’s celebration of the Global Big Latch On slated annually in August. Sarah Jean P. Tangonan of MNM said that the campaign aims to protect, promote and support breastfeeding as well as to encourage and support communities to make breastfeeding a normal part of day to day life and identify opportunities to provide ongoing support for all families. In the event, mothers will simultaneously breastfeed their babies and toddlers in different locations all over the world. Tangonan also added that the participants for the simultaneous breastfeeding event have dramatically increased from 87 in 2013, 120 in 2015 and for this year, there are around 300 interested mothers who signed up online for the event.
Aside from the big latch on, Hakab Na 2016 will also tackle topics on atopic dermatitis and baby skin care, myth buster, basic life support for babies, and effects of formula milk to the baby and the microbiome. The MNM will also award the winners for the photo and video contest that is anchored on the theme, “A million ways why breastfeeding is best.” The MNM is a group of mothers who advocate breastfeeding, baby wearing and cloth-diapering lifestyle. It’s a group of stay-at-home moms and working moms, pediatricians, obstetricians, advocates and families that aims to help mommies and families during the difficult times of raising infants and toddlers. Drug rehab program in Gingoog starts GINGOOG CITY – In providing immediate intervention to drug dependents who surrendered and took an oath on August 1, the city government of Gingoog in coordination with the city police station together with members of Barangay Anti-Drug Abuse Council (BADAC) has commenced on August 2, 2016 the Magpakabana Gingoognons Alang sa Kabag-ohan (MGK) program. MGK program comprises a 90day comprehensive communitybased rehabilitation program which is simultaneously conducted in 23 clusters situated in the city’s urban, rural and coastal barangays. “With a great hope that our drug addicts whom we called ‘participants’ would no longer go back to their previous dangerous vice, this administration has been considering the importance of human existence by providing a temporary barangay-based rehabilitation to those who have surrendered for better life,” said mayor Marie Guingona. She further said that change has come to those who want to be rehabilitated for bright tomorrow while the local government has been starting linking with other national government agencies (NGAs) and non-government organizations (NGOs) to build an equipped rehabilitation center to address longterm solutions to drug dependents. The lady exec has shared the significant conception of ‘MGK Program’ by telling, “In response to the mandate of 1987 Philippine Constitution, our local government shall promote the quality of life of the people, shall pursue
undertakings to improve public morals, and shall maintain peace and order. Guingona said they are sharing similar vision in combatting against illegal drug trade with the present national government of President Rodrigo Duterte. “Our MGK’s concerted efforts are now fortifying with our campaign against the proliferation of the menace of dangerous substances which tempt our people residing around city’s 79 barangays,” mayor Guingona said. In doubling endeavors with Mayor Marie for intervention program, city’s police chief Inspector Esperidion R. Biado III has applauded mayor’s political will that turns men and women in uniform more inspired and committed to implement the localized and one-ofa-kind barangay-based rehabilitation program. “The act of relinquishing ‘participants’ old life is a best signal that our city has started to win the fight against illegal drugs. We should not allow an evil doing to triumph. What we need is our city-wide undertakings against this challenge,” said Police Inspector Ismael Virgil Gundaya.
Camigun all set for PWD summit MAMBAJAO, Camiguin – Camiguin is set to hold a summit for Persons with Disabilities (PWD) on 05 August 2016.
The activity will highlight the province participation to the 38th National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation (NDPR) week celebration with the theme “Karapatan ng Maykapansanan, Isakatuparan… Now Na!” It will kick-off with a motorcade, followed by messages and talks from various officials of the local government units and national line agencies. The Provincial Social Welfare Office (PSWDO) said the Department of Labor and Employment, PhilHealth,
Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), and the Technical Skills Education Authority (TESDA) will orient the PWD’s on many services, programs and projects which they could avail. The local government unit is also set to distribute wheel chairs during the 1-day summit. Medical and dental mission, beauty care spree, and fun games are likewise prepared for the PWDs. (JCV/PIA-10)
