DA, ATI train rural women on organic veggie production
MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur – To boost the advocacy on organic farming, the Department of Agriculture Provincial Office in collaboration with Agricultural Training Institute (ATI) Region XII conducted a training on organic vegetable production for rural women on August 2-4, 2016.
Twenty women and 10 farmers from the different barangays of the municipality of Balindong participated in the training to learn the basics of organic farming. Aside from orienting them about Republic Act 10068 or the Organic Agriculture Act of the Philippines, the participants were taught on the concepts and best practices on organic vegetable production and integrated pest and disease management on organic vegetable farms particularly on the preparation of liquid organic
fertilizers and vermicompost production. The participants also received packets of vegetable seeds after finishing the training. The municipality of Balindong is a member of the League of Organic Agriculture Municipalities (LOAM) of the Philippines. LOAM is a national organization of local chief executives that commits to actively promote and implement the sustainable organic agriculture program in their respective municipalities. (APB/PIA-10)
Dads OK agreement for facility center at NHA-CDO Bayanihan Village CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – A facility center will soon rise at NHA-CDO Bayanihan Village located at Sitio Macapaya, Brgy. Camaman-an, Cagayan de Oro City. In his special report during the 4th regular session of the City Council last July 27, 2016 presided over by Vice Mayor Raineir Joaquin Uy, Councilor Dometilo Acenas informed the body of the new modus that victimizes business establishments. Councilor Acenas said unscrupulous persons would order some goods from the establishments using names of certain individuals and city officials. The councilor said he had been a
victim of this modus thrice. He recalled that the first incident happened in June this year, when kilos of meat from Monterey worth P8,000 was delivered to his office. The councilor reported that the unknown person behind the modus also asked for Globe load worth P1,500. The second incident, he said, happened when the unknown person called a flower shop located at Barangay 1 and ordered a bouquet of flowers worth P5,000 under the name
of Councilor Jun Acenas and said that the councilor ordered it for him and his wife’s wedding anniversary. The bouquet was delivered to City Hall, and the person asked for P500 worth of load. Acenas said the latest incident happened last July 26, 2016, while he attended the meeting of the committee on senior citizens at City Hall. He said Yellow Cab Pizza delivered four cartons of pizza worth P2,600. Aside from the pizza, the unknown caller also ordered P200 worth of grocery items, and a P1,200 worth of Globe load, totaling P4,000.
Councilor Acenas said he immediately went to Yellow Cab to clear his name, telling its personnel that he never made the orders. He then asked the local tri-media to help him expose the incidents to put a stop to this modus. As this developed, vice mayor Uy referred the report to the committee on police for appropriate action, even as he asked the secretariat to also furnish the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), the City Police Office, media outlets, and all members of the City Council for their information.
