Duterte: I am ready to retire comes Federal, drug-free Philippines
CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – Speaking to more than 420 soldiers and civilian personnel of Army’s 4th Infantry Diamond Division (4ID), President Rodrigo Roa Duterte said that once the country is already free from drugs, he is then good for retirement.
Putting stoppage to crime and drug trade in the country is the flagship of Duterte administration. In his first two months of presidency, the president has released and publicized names of individuals who are into drugs. He said that doing so is a consonance of him being the country’s President to “let Philippines know who are these people involved in drugs in order for them to protect their selves.” Moreover, he said that doing this can spare the agony and grief of a child who was raped and of parents working hard abroad for a longest span of time only to find out that their daughter was raped of a drug addict or their son became a victim of drug addiction. In the middle of his speech where he delivered for more than 30 minutes,
he said, “I grieved for women raped, men killed, infant raped.” He also said, “Kapag mapabilis lang yang Federalism at malinis ko sa droga ang Pilipinas, I am ready to retire (If the Federalism government will just be approved for implementation and I can eventually clean drugs out in this country, I am good for retirement).” In his Talk to Troops with 4ID, the president also discussed about his fight in ending the conflict with rebellious groups. It pains me deeply to really do that, to sign papers and documents to bring in more bullets and bombs just to kill more Filipinos but as much as you really want to be shining armor of peace, there are things that we really have to take care of, he said. He mentioned a violent group who he said desires to gain authority not through election but by armed
struggle. He addressed that he understands the matters of ideology these people believe in, however, “meron tayong sentimento but we can’t translate it to violence (We share the same sentiment but we can’t translate it to violence),” he said. During the president’s visit to Cagayan de Oro City and in Misamis Oriental on August 9, he led the awarding ceremony of gold cross medal to nine officers and enlisted personnel who showed gallantry in action during an encounter with approximately 80 heavily armed members of the New People’s Army in Valencia City, Bukidnon last August 5. These troops are under 1st
Special Forces Battalion, Special Forces (Airborne), Special Operations Command, Philippine Army which is operationally controlled by 403rd Infantry Brigade of 4ID. Namely, these are 1Lt Lorefel O. Judaya, 2Lt Marvin S. Jacinto, 2lt Jehiel P. Liw-agan, 2Lt Aljosh Iman A. Arreola, Sgt Harold D. Nimenzo, Cpl Raelcum T. Mendador, Cpl Brendo C. Espiritu and PFC Jaynard E. Llander. Aside from this, wounded personnel medal were also given to enlisted personnel, PFC Ricky Borja and PFC Richelle V. Sandigas, of similar unit after sustaining gunshot wounds during the second encounter at the same area. (IJBD/PIA)
DA-10 promotes BROWN4good campaign CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – City solon warned local establishments to be cautious, especially when they receive a call from an unknown person, placing an order and subsequently asking for cellphone load. The BROWN4good project introduces brown rice as an alternative staple to white rice ensuring not only enough food on the table, but also adequate nourishment for the consumers. The national launching of BROWN4good is set on 30 August 2016. Activities lined-up during the launching include cooking contest with
brown rice as the main ingredient, feeding program to day care centers, among others. Brown rice is being promoted by DA nationwide as it could boost farmers’ income as it save the 10% postharvest losses during milling. Likewise, it can help ease malnutrition because of its additional nutrient content.
It is a whole grain or unpolished rice. It is nutritionally superior to white rice in terms of fiber, protein, good fats, vitamins B1, B2, B3, B9, and E, minerals, and antioxidants The so-called brown rice is not a variety but a paddy or rough rice (palay) without the outer covering called hull or husk. It is the rice that
did not go through polishing during milling that is why it still has the bran and germ, making it called unpolished rice. The bran is responsible for its light brown or tan color, nutty taste and chewy texture. (SVA, DA- RFO10/PIA 10)
