DTI gets more social, intensifies presence in Social Media

MALAYBALAY CITY, Bukidnon – Change has come in the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) as its new Secretary Ramon Lopez recently ordered to strengthen the agency’s presence in the social media such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

In Memorandum Circular No. 16-03, all DTI offices and bureaus, including the regional and provincial offices were enjoined to intensify online presence through the creation of Facebook Pages and accounts in Twitter and Instagram. This was done to take advantage of the wide-ranging benefits offered by these digital media in reaching and communicating the agency’s programs, projects and activities to its partners, stakeholders, and its clientele, which include consumers and entrepreneurs. The Memorandum Circular also specifies the guidelines to be observed in the creation of social media accounts. All bureaus and offices of DTI,

including the Bukidnon Provincial Office, were directed to promote the social media accounts in all speeches and fora engagements as well as in the scripts of any television or radio ads/programs of the agency while calling all personnel to like, share, and promote the same to their friends and contacts. As such, DTI-Bukidnon can now be seen in Facebook through its official Facebook page – DTI Bukidnon – open for public views, likes, comments and visits. Bukidnons also can now follow DTI-Bukidnon’s official twitter account: @DTIBukidnon and Instagram account: @DTI.Bukidnon. (Laurence D. Pradia, DTI-Bukidnon/RLRB, PIA 10-Bukidnon)

NorMin top cop orders revamp anew, police chiefs relief looms CAMP ALAGAR – Two weeks after the 12 chiefs of police were sacked due to poor performance in the campaign against illegal drugs, Northern Mindanao police chief ordered another revamp based on the directives from higher headquarters and guidance from the President. The three top police officials relieved were the Provincial Director of Camiguin Police Provincial Office, PSSupt Leonilo Cabug; the Provincial Director of Misamis Occidental,

PSSupt Edgar Daniel and the Battalion Commander of Regional Public Safety Battalion, PSSupt Archival Macala. The relief order was effective September 27, 2016.

PCSupt Noel Constantino, Police Regional Office 10 director, said he implemented the relief and reassignment of concerned Police Commissioned Officers (PCOs) in accordance with the directives of the Philippine National Police (PNP) National Headquarters, and based from the guidance of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte when he visited PRO10 last Sept. 22, 2016 where the President held a closed-door conference with senior police officers. “There are still impending movements of city police chiefs but we are still ironing out some details before we implement the order,” PCSupt Constantino said. Replacing PSSupt Cabug in Camiguin Police Provincial Office is PSSupt Rolando Destura, the outgoing Chief of the Regional Intelligence Division. PSupt Michael Pareja will be the new Officer in-Charge of Regional Intelligence Division. PSSupt Jaysen de Guzman who is the former Battalion Commander of Regional Public Safety Battalion in Ilocos Region replaced

PSSupt Edgar Daniel as Provincial Director of Misamis Occidental. Outgoing Battalion Commander of RPSB PSSupt Archival Macala was replaced by PSupt Danildo Tumanda who delegated his position as Chief of the Regional Investigation and Detective Management Division to PSupt Marilou Tambis as Officer-inCharge. NorMin police regional spokesperson PSupt Surki Sereñas disclosed that the latest revamp was the result of the Oversight Committee evaluation and regular movement of officers. “This is an offshoot of several overarching reasons that include unsatisfactory performance on the anti-illegal drugs campaign, overstaying and notwithstanding their own personal reasons like retirement, their desire for a well-balanced career assignments in both staff and command positions, assignment outside the region and job competency alignment,” PSupt Sereñas said. Bukidnon gets international aid to obtain ‘mother plant’ for high-yielding coffee variety MALAYBALAY CITY, Bukidnon – In order to address efficiency issues in Bukidnon’s coffee production, the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) granted assistance to Impalutao, Dalwangan, Sawaga (IMDALSA) coffee farmers to source out a mother plant for high-yielding coffee variety.

This is after the IFAD consultants identified various coffee production issues during their visit in the province early this month, in coordination with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI). Dutch Consultant Jens Kristensen from the United Kingdom confirmed assistance to IMDALSA group of coffee farmers—an Agrarian Reform farmer-beneficiaries—for the grafting of ‘Catimor’ coffee rootstock and a scion to be sourced from an imported mother plant. Likewise, this intends to start a nursery of quality ‘Arabica’ coffee seedlings. This initiative aims to boost the unique and inherent traits of coffee to become disease-resistant and increase crop yield. In a meeting at Impasugong town, Kristensen promised to fund the project which includes the establishment of commercial nursery; grafting process including nursery maintenance; import of the mother plant; the necessary expenses in testing the newly grafted seedlings within the province’s different geographical locations; and the monitoring and evaluation process. DTI was tasked to undertake three critical steps for the project inception, specifically on the identification of import requirements and its process; consultation with the National Coffee Organization to determine high yielding coffee variety that has a specialty quality; and preparation of the Geographic

Indication for registration. Kristensen encouraged DTI to assist in hastening the implementation of said project, though the amount of assistance has not yet been mentioned during the meeting. DTI Bukidnon Provincial Director Ermedio J. Abang, meanwhile, said DTI-10 Regional Director Linda O. Boniao has scheduled a meeting with Department of Agriculture Secretary within the month. “We will be discussing things about the importation of a ‘mother plant’ for this high-yielding coffee variety—and the project in general,” he said. This progress in Coffee Industry of Bukidnon made history during the pre-designed mission of the foreign-funded Rural Agro-industrial Partnership for Inclusive Development and Growth (RAPID Growth) Project in partnership with the Department of Trade and Industry.
