DA 10 spearheads WFD Opening

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – The Department of Agriculture – Regional Field Office 10 (DA-RFO 10) led the opening of the World Food Day (WFD) Celebration with other government agencies and LGUs on October 17, at the DA – RFO 10 compound.


In light of this year’s theme, “Climate is changing. Food and agriculture must too,” DA-RFO 10 organized a “Tiangge (bazaar)” participated by different government and private sectors showcasing quality products that were mostly food based and sold at a very reasonable price for the public to buy. Assistant Regional Director Engr. Roxanna H. Hojas of DA-RFO 10 led the ribbon cutting signifying the opening of the event. The day-

long activity also highlighted the awarding of the regional achievers who have exemplary contribution in the development of the agriculture sector in the country. DA-RFO 10 and its attached agencies also put up an information booth showcasing agriculture technologies and guides, as well as a booth for DA’s “BROWN4good Campaign” which supports the use of brown rice. LTO-X warns motorists on use of defective vehicle accessories, devices CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – The Land Transportation Office (LTO) in region X is warning motorists to check the condition of their motor vehicles’ accessories and lighting device or be meted the penalties prescribed by the law. LTO-X Director Oscar S. Salcedo will continually deploy LTO traffic law enforcement teams to inspect the condition of motor vehicles and apprehend the drivers or impound the vehicles that are found to be defective. This is done during the inspection of the motor vehicle or motorcycle at the renewal of registration or when the LTO undertakes law enforcement patrol operations. LTO-X will likewise start the campaign for roadside inspection for

the apprehension of smoke belching vehicles. Under the law, a vehicle must have the functioning lighting devices, including headlights, signal lights, parking lights, and stop lights. The law also prohibits the use of emergency lights and warning or signaling devices such as sirens. Only hospital ambulances, fire and police vehicles are allowed to have sirens and emergency flashing devices. Red light is not also allowed in the front of the vehicle, nor are fog


lights permitted unless in a foggy weather condition. Drivers and front-seat passengers are also required to wear the prescribed seatbelts while motorcycle riders are required to wear the prescribed helmets. Motorcycle owners are further prohibited to modify the mufflers that produce loud, irritating and nuisance noise nor should operators install

nuisance horns. Motor vehicles should also the required early warning device that will be needed in case the vehicle is stalled on the road. Director Salcedo said all these measures are meant for the safety, confort and convenience of the motorists, passengers and the public at large. (Domindaor Awiten/LTO-X/ APB/PIA-10)

BFAR Marawi holds lakeshore clean-up MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur – The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) here conducted a lakeshore cleanup drive on October 18, to intensify awareness on the need to conserve and protect fisheries and aquatic resources. The lakeshore clean-up held in Barangay Lumbaca Madaya kickedoff the 53rd Fish Conservation Week celebration in Marawi city. The observance that started on October 17 and will culminate on October 21 is pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No. 176 s. 1963. City Fishery Officer Saida Tomadung said the theme for this year’s celebration is “Malinis at Masaganang Karagatan Tungo sa Mas Masiglang Pangisdaan” to remind the public on the importance of protecting the fisheries and aquatic resources. Other activities for the weeklong

celebration are the conduct of training on municipal and regulatory services; consultative meetings with local government units, barangay officials, non-government organizations, peoples’ organizations, and fisherfolks; and the holding of livelihood day where fishing paraphernalia will be distributed to targeted fisherfolks.
