4ID destroys 164 seized firearms
CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – Army’s 4th Infantry Division began destroying at least 164 assorted confiscated, captured, surrender, and recovered (CCSR) firearms that were turnedin from 19 December 2015 to 30 August 2016.
In simple ceremonies at the military headquarters at Camp Evangelista, 4th ID commanding general MGen. Benjamin R Madrigal Jr led in cutting of 76 non-standard CCSR firearms consisting of shotgun, revolver, pistol and rifles. Madrigal said the destruction of the unserviceable firearms was prompted by the issuance of a directive from General Headquarters, calling for the disposal of such weapons. According to Madrigal, the method of demilitarization is to cut the CCSR firearms into several pieces and burned. Scraps will be disposed through public auction. The proceeds will form part of the trust fund to support the AFP Modernization Program. He said the implementation of the system monitoring and disposing CCSR firearms will secure and prevent these firearms from landing in the hands of terrorists, criminals and insurgent groups.
“Demilitarization is a proclamation of the State’s authority and victory over those who use weapon to inflict threat and terror among our citizens,” he said. For the 69 seized serviceable firearms gained in various operations will be integrated to the supply lines. Meanwhile, standard CCSR firearms with defaced serial numbers, 19, shall be subjected to macro erching at the nearest Regional Police Office to determine the original serial number and subsequently the Armed Forces of the PhiliAFP/PNP ownership. Those determined to be owned by the PNP shall be turned over to the PNP including those with legal impediments, remaining CCSR firearms with defaced serial numbers will be segregated for demilitarization regardless of serviceability status. These firearms were subjected to inspection and deliberation by the technically qualified personnel from Service Support Units. Every firearm was properly evaluated in terms of type, model, serviceability, and ownership. The verification of the ownership of the firearm includes records check with the Firearms and Explosive Division, Civil Security Group and PNP. (EOR/PIA10)
DOLE, DepEd conduct career coaching to high school students in MisOr VILLANUEVA, Misamis Oriental – The Department of Labor and Employment Eastern Misamis Oriental Provincial Field Office in coordination with the Department of Education (DepEd) conducted Career Coaching Seminars to 330 students of Tagoloan on 13 October 2016 and 220 Villanueva National High Schools on 18 October 2016. DOLE-X Eastern Misamis Oriental Head Errol A. Natividad informed that the discussion on Labor Market Information (LMI) is focused on Career Coaching. “It is important that soon-to-begraduates are well-informed on the employment’s supply and demand in the Labor Market,” Natividad added. Likewise, LMI also provides information on the trends of jobs in the Philippines and abroad. Career coaching gives an in depth explanation and discussion about how to choose the desired course for a student going to college and how to maintain or yet, upgrade their skills and abilities once employed. Natividad reported that during the activity, most of the girls wanted to pursue Nursing and Hotel, Restaurant and Management courses while, the male students mostly want to take Engineering courses. “It is important for you (students) to decide early in life on which course to pursue to prevent job mismatch later on. Aside of choosing the
suitable course for your skills, it is also economical on your or your parents part from jumping from one course to another,” Natividad adviced. Tagoloan Guidance Counselor (GC) Escalera and Villanueva GC Resorrecion Padon both thanked DOLE-X EMO PFO for sharing the valuable information on employment to the students since they will be turning Grade 11 the next school year. “We are one with the aim of the government in guiding the students to the appropriate career paths which will definitely lead them to successful careers in the future. LanaNorte guv mulls dev’t of Mt. Torong-Torong for tourism TUBOD, Lanao del Norte – The Provincial Government of Lanao del Norte has set its eyes on Mt. Torong-Torong as the next area for development due the potentials it has on tourism. Mt. Torong-Torong is known for its grandeur, exemplified by the summit overlooking the Panguil Bay. Governor Imelda QuibranzaDimaporo said the mountain is a potential site for tourism development, including the putting up of a zip line and other tourist attractions. Mt. Torong-Torong lies between the municipalities of Tubod and Kolambugan, encompassing, as well, a small portion of Magsaysay town. It has an estimated elevation of 2,500
to 3,000 feet above sea level. Lanao del Norte 2nd District Congressman Abdullah D. Dimaporo said Mt. Torong-Torong was already eyed on in the past as a tourism potential and for development with the help of surrounding municipalities. Gov. Dimaporo said people may anticipate that coming along with boosted tourism are more jobs and income-generating opportunities for the residents living near Mt. TorongTorong. (PIO-PLDN)
