Kagay-an 390 enriches CDO history

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – To tell a story about how the city was founded and the people who came over here, the Cagayan de Oro Historical and Cultural Commission held the Forum Kagay-an 390 on October 27-28.

Hiscom Chair Dr. Erlinda Burton said that Forum Kagay-an 390 is a 10-year preparation for the 400 years of Cagayan de Oro settlement and is considered as the fruit of their strategic planning last May. Backed by the documents from the recollect fathers and missionaries, Burton stressed that the history of the city started way back when the

people from Huluga, the Himologans, were brought here. Huluga is a place eight kilometers south of the present Cagayan de Oro City. Considered by City Mayor Oscar Moreno as once in a lifetime and grand event, the Forum Kagay-an 390 also aims to reunite the people who born and raised in the city. Right now, the Hiscom is operating and doing work at their own initiative since the funding for such cause is insufficient. Hence, Burton urges Kagay-anons to help them in their endeavor as they are also looking forward to the big celebration of the city’s 390 years that would be on 2018.(RTP/PIA10)

Gov’t agencies distribute assistance packages in Lanao del Sur thru CRDA MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur – To improve the living condition in the province, government agencies distributed assistance packages to pre-identified beneficiaries and laid down their respective poverty-eradication programs during the launching of the Comprehensive Reform and Development Agenda (CRDA).

The CRDA is the socio-economic package of the Duterte administration on peace and poverty alleviation in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) and conflictaffected areas in Mindanao. The launching, highlighted by the ceremonial distribution of assistance packages, was simultaneously held in the ARMM and conflict-affected areas in regions 9, 10 and 12 on October 29, 2016. In Lanao del Sur, the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) awarded scholarship grants to ten indigent youth. The grant is open for any TESDA course and valid from November 2016 to December 2017. Jamil Panontongan, a recipient of the grant expressed gratitude for the scholarship. “Nagpapasalamat kami sa TESDA na tumutulong lalo na sa mga nangangailangan tulad namin na hindi kayang makapagaral sa kolehiyo. Maraming salamat sa TESDA at kay Pangulong Duterte” (We are thankful to TESDA which is helping those who cannot afford to go to college like us. Thank you TESDA and President Duterte), he said. The Mindanao State University (MSU) also rendered 15 scholarship slots to deserving students under its New Scholarship Grants for Peacebuilding and Poverty Alleviation. The scholarship covers free tuition and other schools fees effective second semester of school year 2016-2017. Dr. Mariam Diron, MSU vice

chancellor for academic affairs, said the assistance will enhance the access to quality education and close existing gaps created by inequities. It will also develop productive members of the society. “I am thankful for being one of the grantee for this scholarship. This will not only help us financially but it will also encourage us to exert our best efforts in our studies,” said Fatima Sakinah Otara, a BS Secondary Education student. Chemical Engineering student Nural Anah Macapodi, on the other hand, said she is grateful for the scholarship. “It is a blessing especially that school expenses are not too costly,” she said. Also extending their assistance during the launching were the Bureau of Fishery and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), Department of Agriculture (DA), and Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth). PhilHealth distributed free member data record (MDR) to eight government-sponsored members. BFAR, on the other hand, handed over certificates of project ownerships for one portable smokehouse each to five fisherfolk associations in Balabagan, Butig, Madalum, Marantao and Masiu. Fisherfolk associations in Madamba, Buadipuso Buntong, Masiu and Tugaya also received one unit of tilapia fishpot each. (APB/PIA-10)

NorMin PNP launches Project Double Barrel Alpha CAMP ALAGAR, Cagayan de Oro City – Our accomplishments tally is reset back to zero!

Thus, said Northern Mindanao police regional director PCSupt Noel Constantino as he signaled the shift in the anti-illegal drug campaign strategy. PCSupt Constantino himself personally presented Project Double Barrel Alpha, the revitalized antiillegal drug campaign strategy in a command conference over the weekend at Camp Alagar with ranking police officials from across the region in attendance. “Although the new approach in anti-illegal drug operations will still be launched nationwide within few days, we have already taken the lead as always and expects ground commanders to deliver and meet our

target before the year ends,” Constantino said. “Project Double Barrel Alpha will place stronger focus on arresting prominent personalities in the government, military, police and business industry involved in the illegal drug trade,” NorMin police regional spokesperson PSupt Surki Sereñas said. “The new approach aims to reduce killings and put more emphasis into arresting high value targets tied to drug trade and at the same time assist in facilitating drug problem intervention programs,” Sereñas added. The spokesperson also said that another important component infused in the Project Double Barrel Alpha will be on the way police operates. The new strategy will see police working with community leaders to clear neighborhoods of drugs and partnering with other sectors of society to facilitate intervention such as community-based rehabilitation programs.
