BSP awards outstanding Project BRO partners in CDO CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) awarded outstanding partners in Cagayan de Oro for their efforts in promoting the advocacy of the BSP particularly the Project BRO.
The awarding ceremony was held on November 22, during the Cagayan de Oro leg of the Financial Empowerment Sessions of the Financial Consumer Protection Department (FCPD) of the BSP. The Cagayan de Oro National High School (CNHS) was recognized as BSP’s Outstanding School of Savers for being able to raise the highest number of student- savers with kiddie savings account among the 40 schools visited by the BSP for the Project BRO. Margareth Macodbod and Vincent Gary Corugda, both from CNHS, also received the Best Saver-Mentor and Outstanding Teen Saver awards, respectively. Divina Salve A. Labitad, bank officer of the BSP-FCPD, said Project BRO (BSP Reaches Out) is a savings campaign for kids and teens to
promote the habit of saving early. Labitad noted that those who began saving during their childhood will display better attitudes towards savings than those who did not. Project BRO was developed for Grade 1 to 10 students from both public and private schools across the country to teach kids about money matters early in life. It was launched by BSP in July 2015 and has reached 40 schools and more than 70,000 students. In Cagayan de Oro City, Project BRO team has visited East City Central School, Cagayan de Oro National High School, Xavier University Grade School and High School to guide and motivate Cagayanon kids and teens develop good financial habit. Thousands of drug peddlers, users in Bukidnon surrender MALAYBALAY CITY, Bukidnon – More than 23,000 selfconfessed drug peddlers and users in Bukidnon surrendered to authorities since President Rodrigo Duterte ordered the Philippine National Police (PNP) to step up campaign against illegal drugs. PNP Bukidnon Provincial Director after PNP has intensified its “Tokhang,” Reynaldo A. Padulla, said that 23,898 or “knock and plead” operation in the suspected pushers and users yielded province’s 20 towns and two cities.
Latest data released by PNP Bukidnon showed that from July 1 to November 10—over four months— the top five cities and municipalities with the highest accumulated number of “drug pushers and users” who surrendered to the police are Malaybalay City, 3,287; Valencia City, 2,557; Manolo Fortich, 1,932; Don Carlos, 1,605; and Lantapan, 1,533. Those who have turned themselves in at Talakag were 1,269; Maramag 1,179; Kalilangan 1,111; Pangantucan 1,033; Kitaotao 958; Quezon 905; San Fernando 871; Cabanglasan 851; Kadingilan 730; Libona 687; Impasugong 624; Dangcagan 613; Baungon 521; Malitbog 496; Kibawe 469; Damulog 418; and Sumilao 249. Chief, also reported that since “Oplan Tokhang” was launched, 263 persons were arrested and 230 of these cases were already filed in court. He said out of 294,655 households in the entire province, PNP Bukidnon has visited and knocked on a total 246,808 houses since July 1 this year. “Most of the prevalent crimes are usually drug-related like robbery, theft, rape, domestic violence and all forms of abuse. Thus, with this “Oplan Tokhang,” the province’s crime volume marked a decrease for the said period,” Yam-oc said. The PNP provincial director also ordered cops to continue intensify the campaign and urged public to support and help the government’s anti-illegal drug drive. (RLRB, PIA 10Bukidnon)
Lanao Del Sur launches operation manual for women, peace center MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur – In a bid to promote gender equality in the province, the provincial government of Lanao del Sur launched on November 21, the operation manual of the Provincial Women and Peace Center (PWPC). The manual specifies the processes responsive programs and services. and work flows that are to be adopted by the PWPC in the delivery of gender- Guidelines on the facility and human
resource requirements as well as the institutional arrangements are also spelled out in the manual. The launching was attended gender and development (GAD) focal persons from the different line agencies and municipalities and local media practitioners. Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process (OPAPP) Undersecretary for Peace-Building and Development, Diosita Andot, also graced the event. Andot said the establishment of the PWPC is a demonstration of the government’s active support and leadership in the implementation of international commitments on women, peace and security under the UN Security Resolutions 1325 and 1820. The Center was established with the support of the OPAPP and the ARMM Regional Government through the Regional Commission on the
Bangsamoro Women (RCBW) in line with the government’s Localizing the National Action Plan (LNAP) on women, peace and security program that targets to bring national programs to grassroots level, especially in conflictaffected areas. Monaima Adiong, provincial GAD Focal Person, said the Center seeks to provide women in the province access to programs and support services related to GAD and peace-building and address concerns of women especially those affected by conflict and other related issues. Located inside the Provincial Capitol compound, the PWPC will house the different activities of women groups, provide capability building on GAD, and training to capacitate women to be economically-empowered. The Center will also provide referral services for the violence against women (VAW) survivors, Adiong added. (APB/PIA-10)
