SSC wins 2018 Dulaang Pangmamimili By Mary Jane Banglos, GIP SIQUIJOR, October 31 (PIA) - - The Siquijor State College (SSC) brought home the title as Champion of the 2018 Provincial Dulaang Pangmamimili held at E.I Suites, Poblacion, Siquijor recently. The Dulaang Pangmamimili is in celebration of the Consumer Welfare Month, a celebration led by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) with the theme, “Making Digital Marketplaces Fairer.” DTI Siquijor Provincial Director Angeline Pauline Gonzalez, Department of Education Siquijor Superintendent Ronald Gutay, and acting Mayor of Siquijor town Joy Andrade graced the competition. Provincial Director presented the rationale of the competition and encouraged the contestants to give their best. Seven schools presented their act during the pre-screening — Campalanas National High School, Cang-alwang National High School, Catulayan National High School, Enrique Villanueva National High School, Punong High School, Provincial Science High School, and Siquijor State College (SSC), but only three made it to the final competition. SSC competed with Siquijor Provincial Science Highschool and Campalanas National Highschool, all displaying their acts with equal vigor and determination. The contestants showcased live roleplaying in front of the five judges and the audience, and entries were judged thereafter, wherein SSC was proclaimed as the winner with a total score of 470. Harvie Ligutom, SSC adviser and coach said they weren’t even expecting to win because it is their first time and they have not observed last year’s competition. She said they were very thankful and overjoyed of their success. “Upon knowing that we won, it was very overwhelming. The kids were really noisy. We were celebrating, really cheering because our hardships have paid off,” shared Ligutom. She said they brainstormed and researched on the concept of their act and portrayed the danger of digital market place. “It is very liberating, very open, but

the danger also is daghan syang posibleng hacking, scamming, then, daghan kaayong hocus-pocus like identity theft, and so that’s what we focused,” (it poses a lot of danger like hacking, scamming, and other hocus-pocus like identity theft, and that is what we focused on.) she said referring to the digital market. The team portrayed a love story between two students in which the boy ordered items online but got the wrong item. They also showed two girls whose faces were damaged because of buying fake beauty products and of a mother whose credit card was hacked. Vince Jaylo Bation, an actor of the play, also said that he felt very excited for all their hardships paid off. “Exciting sya, at the same time, fun kay nalingaw ko ug acting didto,” he shared. (Very exciting, at the same time, fun because I enjoyed acting there.) Bation played the role of a Grade 6 student who used the credit card of his mother without permission. He gained the applause of the audience because of his confidence. Ligutom also shared the struggles of their preparation and said it was very

challenging because they have prepared a script for a location shooting but did not thought they’d be performing it live in a roleplay. She said they have to change the entire script into one-act play two nights before the submission of the actual video. “The preparation was very challenging because we wrote a script that was good for location shooting, and made the video. It was the hardest part because we prepared very early but it was only two nights before the final submission that we realized that what they’re looking for is actually a one-act play,” narrated Ligutom. She said they had to make revisions of the script as there were lines that were too long. “There were instances that it’s too long to memorize and there is a possibility that they’ll stammer in front. So we have to strategize so that everybody will have a way and the lines will be divided among them so it won’t be boring also, the coach said. She also thanked the teachers who helped them with their success and the parents for supporting the contestants.(rac/ PIA7Siquijor/MJ Banglos/GIP)

Help empower communities through responsible sharing of information --PIA chief BAGUIO CITY, Sept. 6 (PIA) -“Responsible sharing of information is not just an advocacy, it is a must in a society where people tend to put too much trust

Cyber/Digital Literacy. With the advent of technology, be responsible citizens and share the right information that will help empower communities. Information that can bring opportunities for better life for every Filipinos and progress to every community. Thus, the message of PIA Director General Harold Clavite, in his plenary talk on Partnership for Inclusive Literacy during the 2018 National Literacy Conference and Awards at Hotel Supreme, Baguio City. in the internet. Forwarding this narrative doesn’t start with the government nor whoever runs your social media platforms, it starts with you.”

Philippine Information Agency Director General Harold Clavite stressed this during a plenary session at the 2018 National Conference and Literacy Awards with the theme, “Inclusive Literacy through Integrative and Innovative Partnerships” at Hotel Supreme here on Wednesday. Clavite outlined that as the country’s achievements in terms of basic and functional literacy have been gaining ground, there is also the need to strengthen partnership among all stakeholders, both in the government and private sector, in pushing for cyber or digital literacy to address disinformation that leads to public misinformation that is now becoming a social concern. ‘Digital media is an emerging information source that we need a new kind of literacy that we have not yet mastered as it continues to evolve as we speak’, he said. Around 67 million Filipinos use the internet in a day while kids or the younger generation spend an average of 34 hours online every week which makes them vulnerable to wrong or misleading information that may affect their lives, he added. Rice is every Filipino’s staple food. A dining experience is not complete without it. We even dedicated a month for National Rice Awareness which is every November. This observance coincides with the anniversary of the Philippine Rice Research Institute as declared by Proclamation No. 524, s. 2004. This year’s theme is “Quality Rice, Quality Life.”

President Duterte issues memorandum circular to strengthen anti-drug campaign

MALACAÑANG -- President Rodrigo Roa Duterte on Tuesday, November 6, announced that he would issue a memorandum circular directing the entire government machinery to mobilize its assets to take an active role in the government’s anti-illegal drug campaign. During his lecture to the Cabinet Members at the Aguinaldo State Dining Room, the Chief Executive narrated the correlation of the two notorious predicaments the country are facing – drugs and corruption via “illegal drug trade.” “What we have is the moving forward to eradicate illegal drug trade, activate a national anti-illegal drug task force,” he said. The task force will be composed of the personnel from the Philippine National Police, Armed Forces of the Philippines, Bureau of Customs, Philippine Coast Guard, and other agencies of the government. “It can provide a necessary personal compliment to carry out the directive of the President to the Bureau of Customs to block the flow of illegal drugs in this country,” he cited. The President reiterated that drugtrade is a “national security threat” because ‘shabu’ enters the country almost every day. He added that port areas’ vulnerability to corruption could allow dangerous cargoes to enter the country as well. “Ang ating pantalan is a big gap. Not only am I worried about drugs but it is really so big as to accommodate all dangerous things — chemicals and all,” he noted. “It could ship a bomb there, TNT, and for all you know, nobody really cares or because he does not know or because there is somebody bribing him to have the cargo just slip by. We’d never know how much corruption and to what extent would be the dimension of the danger of this country,” he added. “Iyan ang problema. There is trouble outside the pantalan because ang pantalan mismo nagpapapasok. And that is part of the law and order situation. It has nothing to do with designation or appointment of any person. I’m just trying to control crime,” he said. President Duterte then stood firm with his decision that positioning stern military men in customs would alleviate the drug trade problem and corruption inside the bureau. “Now, sabi nila na it violates

the constitution and the operative words there are the prohibition of appointment or designation. When I called in the Army to help the Bureau of Customs, there was no designation, there was no appointment, and there was never an instruction for them to take over the functions of the employee,”

the President said. “So ang ginawa ko is just really to order them on floating status. But that was a particular order directed for chiefs of offices and section chiefs. Iyong mga assistant nila ang magta-trabaho,” he continued. (PND)
