SIQUIJOR, May 2 (PIA) -- The Siquijor Police Provincial Office (SPPO) is 100 percent ready for the May 13 midterm elections with their strict implementation of security plans and measures . Police Captain Romeo Caacoy Jr., SPPO C/POPB, in a press release said the security measures have been set in place following the creation of force multipliers to augment the Siquijor police in ensuring peace and order in each voting precinct. Caacoy said through the joint efforts
of the Philippine Coast Guard and Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), the SPPO can ensure stronger security measures this elections. One of the force multipliers tapped are the barangay tanods and the Barangay Intelligence Networks (BINs), Caacoy said. Meanwhile, to maximize the deployment of policemen and utilize all its resources in securing peace and order during election day, Caacoy said the Siquijor police participated in the recent local absentee voting
for the May 13 midterm elections. Commission on Elections (Comelec) Resolution 10443 allows Local Absentee Voting for certain voters for the May 13 elections starting April 29 to May 1. The resolution provides that members of the PNP are entitled to avail of absentee voting, provided that they are duly registered voters and temporarily assigned in places where they are not registered in the course of undertaking their public functions and duties. DSWD-7 updates indigent senior citizens’ social pensions
(PIA)--The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD)-7 conducts the updating the information of the indigent senior citizens who are included in the Social Pension program in the region, said DSWD-7’s Head of the Social Marketing Section and Regional Information Officer, Leah Quintana. According to Quintana, the updating aims to gather new information from the existing beneficiaries of the social pension program. She added, the field office has started the updating the information last month and this was participated by various programs and services staff of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program, Kalahi-CIDSS and Sustainable Livelihood Program, among others.
DSWD-7 Regional Director Rebecca P. Geamala said, “We are thankful to our staff especially those who were assigned in different cities and municipalities who accepted the call for this social pension updating. However, since we already hired staff for this updating, the newly hired validators will continue the home visitation and interview.” These hired staff will have a courtesy visit to the Local Chief Executive and to the Barangay Chairman before they will conduct the home visit of the social pensioners, Geamala added. Information gathered during the updating will be encoded in the social pension beneficiary update form. The update form is a one-page
questionnaire that contains identification, socio-economic information and the utilization of the social pension. Geamala emphasized that “If the social pensioner cannot answer the questions anymore, there should be one eligible family member or guardian who can answer the questions from our staff.” The social pension program started in 2011 under Republic Act 9994 or the Expanded Senior Citizens Act of 2010 that provides P500 monthly stipend for eligible indigent senior citizens. The cash stipend aims to help them in their basic needs such as medicines and food. Currently, there are 270,910 senior citizens in the region who are beneficiaries of the said program.
