SIQUIJOR (PIA)--The Technical Educational and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) is now implementing the “TESDAbot Lahat” program. This was bared by TESDA information officer, Elsa Apiag during the Siquijor Association of Information Disseminators (SAID) monthly gathering at the Sanguniang Bayan (SB) Session Hall, Maria, Siquijor. Apiag explained that TESDAbot LAhat program aims to highlight the spirit and intent of TESDA’s policy direction as well as to expand and strengthen its mandate, programs and services. She added that the program is directed to reach out and serve new and more clients and partners with a clear purpose which is to transform and improve the lives of the poor and underserved fellowmen. To ensure wider reach TESDA has inked with the different training providers. As present, Apiag said there are four training modalities namely, schoolbased, center-based, enterprised-based and community-based. School-based training program refers to the direct delivery or provision of Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programs by the TESDA-administered schools of which, 5, 719 agricultural schools, seven fishery schools and 31 trade schools, were included nationwide at present. These school based programs include post-secondary offerings of varying duration not exceeding three years, she said. These are also being done with TESDA’s infrastructure in place to include 57 TESDA administered schools, 60 training centers, enterprized-based training through DTS/apprenticeship and community-based training in convergence with the local government units (LGUs). The center-based program on the same hand, refer to training provisions being undertaken in the 15 regional and

45 provincial TESDA- Training Centers totaling 60 in selected trade areas in the different regions and provinces in the country. The Community-based Training, on the other hand, refers to the Enterprise development Program that is primarily addressed to the poor and marginal groups, those who cannot access, or are not accessible by formal training provisions. They are those who have low skills, limited management abilities, and have few economic options. This group, she said, has no access to capital – most of them are unqualified for formal credit programs. The program is designed to catalyze the creation of livelihood enterprises that shall be implemented by the trainees, immediately after the
training. Likewise, it is designed to assist partner agencies such as LGUs, NGOs, people organizations and other agencies organizations with mission to help the poor get into productive undertakings to help themselves and their communities. Another training is the Enterprised-Based Programs being implemented within companies/firms. Included in these training are Apprenticeship Program, Learnership Program, and the Dual Training System. The apprenticeship she said is a training and employment program involving a contract between an apprentice and an employer on an approved apprenticeable occupation. Furthermore, it aims to provide a to page 2

It covers a minimum of four months and a maximum of six months. Apiag noted that only companies with approved and registered apprenticeship programs under TESDA can be hired apprentices. The Learnership Program, on the same hand, is a practical training on-thejob for approved learnable occupations,
for a period not exceeding three months. Likewise, only companies with TESDA approved and registered learnership programs can hire learners. Dual Training System is an instructional mode of delivery for technology-based education and training in which learning takes place alternately in two venues namely, the school or training center and the company. One of the strategic approaches on
this program is the conversion of selected industry practices/ programs registered under the apprenticeship program into DTS modality, she ended. For more information on the availability of different trainings, TESDA welcomes queries and applicants, Monday to Friday from 8:00 in the morning to 5:00 in the afternoon. UK, PH ties up for anti-sexual abuse, wildlife, educ programs (PIA) – British Ambassador to the Philippines Daniel Pruce seeks to build a stronger bilateral relationship through antionline sexual exploitation, anti- illegal wildlife trade, and education programs between United Kingdom (UK) and the Philippines especially Cebu. According to Pruce, Philippines is one of the world’s leading providers of online pornographic imagery and UK is one of the leading “consumers” of such materials. The Philippine Department of National Defense (DND) and UK Ministry of Defence (MOD) signed a memorandum of understanding that provides a new framework of partnership, collaboration, and sharing of experiences and skills in defense and security. Likewise, UK’s National Crime Agency and PNP signed an agreement that led to the conviction of a number of individuals
who are involved in online exploitation. Earlier this year, the Philippines, together with Australia and the United Kingdom, formed the Philippine Internet Crimes Against Children Center (PICACC) that aims to combat the increasing incidents of online exploitation. Another focus of the bilateral relationship is the illegal wildlife trade, especially of the Pangolins in Palawan. During the 4th Illegal Wildlife Trade (IWT) conference last year, UK expressed its commitment in supporting the projects of the Philippines on IWT awareness, regulation, and enforcement. Another focus of the programs of UK in the Philippines is in the field of education. British Education Council, Commission on Higher Education (CHED), and Department of Education (DepEd) are
currently partnering with 20 higher education institutions in the Philippines and UK to deliver joint courses of study that allows students to study in either of the two countries and the credentials would be recognized in both. This is called the transnational education initiative. Moreover, the UK Embassy promotes the Chevening scholarship that sends the best and brightest students of the Philippines to UK. This year, they have sent 36 postgraduate students, an increase from the five to six individuals in the previous years. Pruce also encourages more applications from other regions as most scholars hail from the National Capital Region. (Bridgette May Bayhon/PIA7)
