Malasakit Center now open in Siquijor

SIQUIJOR, July 8 (PIA) -- Siquijodnons can now avail of financial and medical assistance from the government with the opening of the Malasakit Center at the Siquijor Provincial Hospital. Sen. Lawrence “Bong” Go and Presidential Assistant for the Visayas Sec. Michael Lloyd Dino led on July 4, 2019 the unveiling of the Malasakit Center marker and turn over of the P5 million check as Malasakit Fund for the poor and indigent patients. Go also committed another P5 million from the “Medical Assistant for Indigents Patients” as additional fund for the Siquijodnons. “Libre na. Inyo ng kuarta, dili na amo, gamita na ninyo sa pagpatambal, walay maongkon niana, walay pulitika na (It’s for free, it’s yours, use that for your medical needs. Nobody owns that, no politics is involved),” he said

and urged the locals to come to him or other government agencies for help. With a P5 million monthly funding from the Office of the President as Malasakit Fund, the Malasakit Center is a one-stop shop of various government agencies that give financial aid to poor and indigent Filipinos. This allows them to conveniently avail of medical and financial assistance offered by the participating government agencies such as the Department of Health (DOH), Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), PhilHealth, and the Philippine Charity Sweeptakes Office (PCSO). The Siquijor Malasakit Center is the 11th Malasakit Center in the Visayas and the 35th in the country. Go said the Malasakit Centers that he continues to open around the

country is a fulfillment of his vision and the President’s promise to hear and serve the needs of the people. First established in 2018 in Cebu through the Office of the Special Assistant to the President, the growing number of Malasakit Centers have already served a number of poor and indigent Filipinos all over the country in their medical and financial needs. He said the Malasakit Center complements the recently approved Universal Health Care Act as he targets to institutionalize the centers to facilitate medical services and address the long process involved in availing medical support. Following the launching in Siquijor, two other Malasakit Centers have been opened in Borongan City, the third in the Island of Samar, and in Ormoc City. (rac/PIA7-Siquijor)

fake news and disinformation. “PCOO cannot do this alone. We do have the resources and technology but we need your help especially the young generation that is active in this crossroad of change,” Andanar said as he encouraged the youth to join in the campaign. He emphasized that the youth have a vital role in the drive against fake news and disinformation since most of them are active online. PCOO presented their campaign platform dubbed “Dismiss Disinformation” that guides the public how to identify fake news using the 5Cs: Content, Context, Communicator’s Identity, Creator’s Intent, and Consequence. With their new initiative under the Dismiss Disinformation, PCOO encouraged the youth to join the “Youth for Truth” association to ensure that the good news of the nation and the right information on government programs will spread. “Youth for Truth” engaged young generations to actively seek, protect, and uphold values of integrity and trust. It has a radio program committed to combat fake news and disinformation. (FAN/PIA7)
