DA chief: ‘Fisheries, agri not just about feeding today’ SIQUIJOR (PIA) -- “Fisheries and agriculture are not only about producing food for today but also in ensuring food for the next generation.” This was the message of former Agriculture Sec. Emmanuel Piñol during the recently concluded 2018 Malinis at Masaganang Karagatan (MMK) National Search for Outstanding Coastal Communities of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), which for the first time, was held outside of Malacañang. “The moment our people become aware that fisheries and agriculture are not only about producing food for today but also in ensuring food for the next generation, they will be more careful in our effort to extract food from the resources that we have,” he said, stressing the importance of patience and sustainablility in food production. “Many people do not understand and even our wise economic thinkers believe that agriculture should be just according to the quarterly performance, that is not the reality of agricuture,” he said.
