46th Araw ng Siquijor celebration kicks off
SIQUIJOR, Sept 6 (PIA)—The province of Siquijor officially kicked off on Tuesday its celebration of 46th Araw ng Lalawigan ng Siquijor with the theme: “Padayon Pag-uswag Siquijor.” The opening ceremony started with a street parade participated in by national and local g o v e r n m e n t o ff i c e s , schools, non-government and people’s organizations, and other institutions in the province. The opening ceremony also marked the start of the sports
activities that include the lighting of torch and Friendship Urn, Oath of Sportsmanship. The official declaration of the 46th Araw ng Lalawigan ng Siquijor Sports Tournament was done at the newly completed Siquijor Multi-Purpose Center. The program was highlighted with the search for Miss Sports Fest where 10 ladies representing the six municipalities and four government offices vied for the title. The sports activities will run from September 5 to 12. Another activity lined up for the two week-long celebration is the Agri-Food and Product Showcase spearheaded by the Office of the Provicial Agriculturist and the Provincial Veterinary that opens on September 13 until September 17. This will be done with the Hudyaka sa Kapitolyo featuring live bands. This is chaired by District Engineer Engr. Elvis Calunod of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH). A Halad sa Katawhan is also scheduled on September 14 with Vice-Governor Mei Ling Quezon and Dr. Josephine S. Bucol. The Halad sa Katawhan offers Local Overseas Job Fair and Releasing of Livelihood

consolidates the learning outreach activities of the BSP under one flagship program. It includes learning sessions that aim to promote greater public awareness and understanding of key economic and financial issues, said Antonio. She explained that the EFLP also embodies the goal of the BSP to promote economic and financial education among its stakeholders, who can then become more effective partners of the BSP in safeguarding price stability and in ensuring a stronger and safer banking and payments system. One of the activities to be conducted is Project BRO or BSP Reaches Out, a savings campaign for kids and teens, set on September 11. Implemented in partnership with the Department of Education (DepEd) and the Bank Marketing Association of the Philippines (BMAP), this session forms part of the BSP’s efforts to foster the habit of saving early in the lives of Filipinos. It will feature interactive lectures and discussions about the value of spending wisely, saving early, and saving in banks. After the session, the BSP will track the students’ saving habits by closely coordinating with teachers and school officials to encourage students to open and maintain savings accounts in banks. Another activity is the “Paghahanda sa Kinabukasan” Financial Learning Campaign for Overseas Filipinos and their Beneficiaries to be held on September 12, along with the “Know Your Money” Briefing to be attended by cash handlers. The “Know Your Money” Briefing aims to educate cash handlers from banks, transport groups, cooperatives, supermarkets, and retail stores on the proper identification and handling of unfit, mutilated, and counterfeit banknotes and coins. Topics include security features of the New Generation Currency (NGC) banknotes, relevant provisions of the BSP Clean Note and Coin Policy, and Coin Recirculation Program. BSP will also undertake the “Be Up To Speed on BSP,” an information drive on the Role of the BSP in the Economy, on September 13. There will also be a Financial Education Expo on September 13 to 14.
