using this device in households may encourage consumers to disregard basic safety practices, said DOE – Visayas Lighting and Appliance Testing Division Officer-in-Charge Engr. Jose Rey Maleza during a breakout session of the Energy Investment Forum and Stakeholders Conference in Cebu City recently. Maleza explained that the anti-leak device is a mechanically

operated gadget technically termed as “excess flow limiter.” A steel ball automatically blocks off the passage of gas by 40 percent to 50 percent of the normal flow when there is a sudden surge through the regulator. However, this does not work when there are pinholes and small cracks on the LPG hose, warned Maleza. Meanwhile, DOE also warned the public against using LPG-refilled butane canisters. The disposable canisters are made for one-time use only and are not intended to be refilled, said Maleza. LPG varies from butane in terms of pressure, and butane canisters refilled with

LPG have higher chances of leaking and exploding. According to DOE, at least six fire incidents caused by explosions of LPGrefilled canisters have been reported in the Visayas and Mindanao since 2015. The only containers allowed to hold LPG are the Transportable and Refillable Welded Steel Cylinders for LPG (PNS 03:2014) and the Refillable Composite Gas Cylinders and Tubes (PNS ISO 111193:2014). The E-Power Mo Energy Investment Forum and Stakeholders Conference highlighted the department’s energy programs, opportunities, development plans and policies, financing, and best practices. share of the program, to include the following: 103 more classrooms; 162 new teachers for elementary, high and senior school; 924 computer units; P26M for the Siquijor State College (SSC) maritime

building; and P10M for SSC’s criminology building. Dino shared how OPAV successfully lobbied for the construction of the P50 billion expressway in Cebu, the only bigticket infrastructure project in Cebu in 19 years, and the $50 million investment for socialized housing for the Visayas. He told Siquijor officials to look for a property with an area of 2.5 hectares where the socialized housing for government workers, military and police, as well as the informal settlers can be built. “If you need socialized housing, please write us your proposals,” he said. “We need to ensure the delivery of basic services reaches the poorest of the poor, the underprivileged and the marginalized sector,” he added. Regional Huwarang Pantawid Pamilya... The Catubig family will receive a cash award of P10,000 and a plaque of recognition during the Panaghiusa Festival later this year. They will represent Region 7 in the national search of Huwarang Pantawid Pamilya. The family was also awarded during the 46th Araw ng Lalawigan ng Siquijor. Ma. Evelyn B. Macapobre, regional director of DSWD-7, said the recognition shows that there are family beneficiaries who exemplified positive Filipino values amidst the challenges of poverty. The Catubig couple, Paulino and Rosemarie, raised their eight children through their livelihood in farming. They taught their children on different household chores and backyard gardening. According to them, performing household chores is the most cherished bonding moments of the family. The couple is also active in community activities in church and the community. “Ang dili nako makalimtan sa FDS kay ang topic mahitungod sa pagpalambo sa pamilya (Strengthening the family is my most unforgettable topic in the Family

Development Session),” said Rosemarie. She learned from that particular topic the value of respect and open communication within the family besides providing the basic needs of the family. For Paulino and Rosemarie, the difficulties that they have experienced are

trials from God. “Kung pasudlon nato ang Ginoo sa atong kasing-kasing, malipayon ug malinawon ang pamilya (If we let God enter our heart, there is peace and harmony in the family),” said Rosemarie. (rac/PIA7Siquijor)

“The government assures the public that it is closely monitoring cases of Japanese encephalitis in the country with the onset of the rainy season when transmission of the virus peaks because of the rise of the mosquito population. We encourage the local government units to report and notify suspect cases of Japanese encephalitis. Prevention of Japanese encephalitis, like dengue, focuses on the identification and destruction of breeding places of mosquitoes as the Department of Health (DOH) is currently firming up plans to introduce vaccination among young children in 2018,” matud pa ni Abella.
