Formerly called Rural Impact Sourcing (RIS) program, digitaljobsPh is a job-ready training which motivates the scholars or trainees to study and learn with DICT as enablers. The town of Maria in Siquijor was its first beneficiary with 24 graduates called as “OFWs” or Online Filipino Workers. The program provides the trainees with the necessary skills and knowledge to do online freelancing as a means of livelihood with the DICT as enablers. DigitaljobsPH is also known as “Kapag May Wifi, May Hanapbuhay,” allowing people in the countryside to gain employment by working mostly from home and earning around the same income as Overseas Filipino Workers. Part of the program is also capacitating MSMEs to increase their market coverage through e-Commerce or with the creation of online presence and business platforms, hence the Digital Marketing and eCommerce Course which is only one of the seven training courses offered by the DICT. Along with the training, Urbistondo said they are committed to provide free WiFi nationwide as its main program and, hopefully, the whole of Siquijor with its six municipalities will have free WiFi with a target of at least 10mbps per site. He said DICT is also considering putting up directly the bandwidth in the province if one of the service providers can provide them with 300 mbps to be distributed provincewide. The DICT official added that they are committed because there are people like the graduates, LGU officials, and MSMEs who are interested in the program and have responded. He also urged the LGUs to expand the program. Siquijor Vice Governor Mei Ling Quezon-Brown herself have seen both the opportunities and the challenge and urged the scholars to take advantage by being capacitated to do online work and to replicate and motivate other municipalities. “They performed very well. Let us open ourselves to online works and continue to support the program,” Brown said. (rac/PIA7-Siquijor)

DigitaljobsPh: Capacitating, creating future millionaires in Siquijor by Rizalie Anding Calibo In two or a few more years, the first batch of Department of Information and Communication Technology (DICT) digitaljobsPh graduates in Larena town will be driving their own cars, while some will likely become millionaires given the right guidance and support. This is what DICT aims for when they offered the 14-day Digital Marketing/E-Commerce Course in Siquijor, specifically in the municipality of Larena, which produced 20 completers, one certificate of participation, one certificate of attendance, and 13 medalists. “You are so privileged because not all local government units around the country have this opportunity,” said DICT Assistant Cluster Director Engr. Leo Cipriano Urbistondo Jr. to the scholars and micro small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) as partners of the technical training that was funded by the DICT. He said they have to be thankful to Sen. Sonny Angara who put up around P200 million for the program and the Larena local government unit as well, without which the program would not have succeeded. Urbistondo added that Larena is fortunate to be one of the around 88 locations in the country with digital jobs this year. The DICT program hopes to produce trainors as well as future employers as DICT sees the potential and feels its commitment to create more jobs. Happy and blessed indeed, as attested by Generose Cayongcong, one of the medalists with special award for Best in Content when she said in her testimony that words are not enough how

STATEMENT OF PCOO SECRETARY ON THE ACCEPTANCE OF VICE PRESIDENT LENI ROBREDO AS ICAD CO-CHAIR With the perceived graveness of the drug situation in the Philippines, immediate actions must be taken in response to the matter. We welcome the inputs and contributions of Vice President Leni Robredo, who has been very vocal about the Duterte administration’s war on illegal drugs, and look forward to the results she can produce. We laud the VP’s acceptance of the Co-Chairmanship of the Inter-Agency Committee on Anti-Illegal Drugs (ICAD). The issue of illegal drugs is serious and the respond to doing something to address the issue should be without hesitation and delay. We believe that the loudest critics should act beyond mere observers, but be active contributors for change. In these times, we should focus on our common goal of ridding the scourge of drugs from our local communities. Let us work together in giving the Filipinos the safe and comfortable life that they deserve. The offer of the President is a genuine opportunity to turn criticisms into constructive inputs in the campaign against illegal drugs. We look forward to the fresh perspective that VP Robredo will bring in addressing the illegal drug problem in the Philippines much faster, instead of just criticizing without concrete actions. For my office, the Presidential Communications Operations Office, we vow to cooperate in the communications campaigns of the ICAD, and we look forward to working with her. We are knocking on your kind hearts for any amount of in- kind or cash donations to help the Earthquake Victims in Mindanao. The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) is now gathering relief goods or any forms of donations. Please feel free to contact the PCG through the numbers indicated below:
