Cang-alwang, Tambisan NHS: country’s top among STARBOOKS. . . from page 1 DOST recognized the best performing sites among the 4,000 sites nationwide based on the monthly report submission which showed an outstanding number of users from August 2018 to August 2019. Cang-alwang NHS School Head Leonel Kilat and Tambisan NHS School Head Ariscaryl Ocay together with their STARBOOKS Site Coordinators Cyrene B. Ancis and Ria B. Alpir, respectively, received the awards. Also present in the awarding was DOST Siquijor Provincial Science and Technology Director Engr. Mario de la Peña. DOST Siquijor is directly responsible in monitoring and follow-up of the submission of monthly reports from all STARBOOKS sites in the province. Cang-alwang NHS as Top 1 performing STARBOOKS site was also awarded with BluPoint technology. “Wala jud ko ga-expect adto. Ang pinakanindot jud Ma’am ang prize nga BluPoint Technology (I never expected it. The BluPoint is, for me, the best prize),” said Cang-alwang NHS site administrator Cyrene Ancis who received the award together with the school head. BluPoint technology of UK-based company BluPoint is a robust and resilient offline internet solution to companies, non-government organizations, and governments around the world. It overcomes the barriers of no electricity and no connectivity. Aside from the two awardees from Siquijor, there are also three awardees from the province of Bohol, bringing to five the number of awards bagged by Central Visayas out of the 10 total spots. The Science and Technology Academic and Research Based Openly Operated Kiosks or STARBOOKS is a library in a box that can be easily transported and used even without internet connection. It is a program launched by DOST-STII which aims to share the digitized resources in various formats (text and video/audio) of its library especially to students who have been marginalized by geographic or economic circumstances. It is also a compendium of science and technology information from all over the world, and it features videos dubbed “Tamang DOSTkarte Livelihood Videos” to stimulate every Filipino’s entrepreneurial capacity. In Siquijor province, at least 16 sites were installed with STARBOOKS with the coordination of DOST-STII, DOST Siquijor Provincial Science and Technology Center, Department of Education, and the recipients. Among these are Siquijor State College, Campalanas National High School, Maria Integrated School, Enrique Villanueva National High School, Catulayan National High School, Banban National High School, Lazi National Agricultural School, San Antonio National High School, Basac National High School, Siquijor Provincial Science High School, and San Juan Tourism Center. SIQUIJOR (PIA) -- Cang-alwang National High School (NHS) and Tambisan NHS have been chosen by the Department of Science and Technology-Science and Technology (S&T) Information Institute (DOST–STII) as two of the Top 10 Most Active STARBOOKS sites in the Philippines. Cang-alwang NHS was awarded as the Top Most Active STARBOOKS site while Tambisan NHS bagged the 10th spot.
