Jason Manos of PPDI, Romel Diate of GSO, and Nida Saplot of PSWDO. -------ooo-------ooo------The Provincial Government of Siquijor with the support of Mendero Medical Center, Inc., conducted a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA signing) for the Dialysis Center of Siquijor Provincial New Hospital at Provincial Governor’s Office, today January 31, 2022. -------ooo-------ooo------The MOA Signing for Dialysis center is of great help to sustain effccient health services because it provides free services to Siquijodnons needing dialysis treatment , Vice Governor Mei Ling Quezon Brown said in her official FB page. -------ooo-------ooo------The Department of Education – Division of Siquijor through Campalanas National High School initiated a new learning delivery modality to high school students during pandemic where face-to-face classes are not yet possible in areas where cases of COVID-19 are on the rise. -------ooo-------ooo------Under the project New-literacies Enhancement through Radio-based Instruction – Aero-teaching in the New Normal (Project NERI-ANN), the school received full support from stakeholders to facilitate the learning needs of the 938 students in Junior and Senior High School. -------ooo-------ooo------Using the two-way hand-held radio, where the school was made as Instructional Communication Center and the home, neighborhood, chapel, purok centers and even barangay halls were utilized as Instructional Learning Areas. Members of ORACIS served as Instructional Learning Area Volunteers (ILAVs) -------ooo-------ooo------DepEd Siquijor Schools Division Superintendent of DepEd-Dr. Neri C. Ojastro said that this project greatly helps the modular learning program implementation in Siquijor schools. He said that it is purposely crafted to provide accessible learning delivery through the radio-based lecture discussion that will develop and enhance learners’ skills in literacy and numeracy.

Mei Ling Quezon-Brown led the Inauguration/Blessing of the brand new “Temporary Treatment and Monitoring Facility (TTMF) in Siquijor Provincial New Hospital, Caipilan, Siquijor, Siquijor on February 8, 2022. The facility accepts all COVID-19 patients admission and has enough distance away from the main hospital building to ensure protection between non covid and covid positive patients. With the new TTMF, the Province assures a strong foundation of health standards and adequate management of COVID cases in the island, IPHO head Dr. George Opay said.

DENR Sec. visits Siquijor

For the first time, DENR Sec. Roy A. Cimatu visited Siquijor Island on February 8 where he lauded the province for making its natural magic work in taking care of the environment as manifested in its clean surroundings. Sec. Cimatu is the first DENR Secretary to visit the island and the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO), said Regional Executive Director Paquito D. Melicor Jr. During his visit, Environment Secretary Cimatu talked with the Provincial Goverment Officials headed by Gov. Zaldy S. Villa and Cong. Jake Vincent Villa on environmental issues and concerns in the province while lauding the province’s efforts in environmental protection, as well as economic and tourism promotion.

NBDB’s Book Nook project opens in Larena

` The first “Book Nook Project” in the island of Siquijor and in Central Visayas is now open to the public. Managed by the local government unit (LGU) of Larena, the project aims to provide free access to fiction, non-fiction, as well as History, Arts, Culture, Values, and

The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) has ordered all LGUs and the Philippine National Police to strictly implement the poll campaign guidelines under Comelec Resolution 10732, particularly the section on allowable campaign activities which corresponds to the alert level in an area. He also hopes candidates will follow the guidelines and lead by example for their supporters to follow.

through the initiative of the National Book Development Board (NBDB) Philippines with the Larena LGU officially managing the project. Larena was chosen as the hub of NBDB’s Book Nook (BN) Project among all municipalities in the province of Siquijor that aims to provide “friendly reading spaces in areas where there are limited access to reading materials and the internet.” Larena Mayor Dean S. Villa thanked the NBDB for choosing the town of Larena as the hub of its Book Nook (BN) Project among all six municipalities in the province of Siquijor. (Larena LGU photo) During the turnover ceremony at the Old Spanish Building, Mayor Dean Villa said that to bridge the equity gaps and digital divides that challenge the society nowadays, a library is a kind of social infrastructure that people need to rebuild civic life in the community. “Today’s event will start us down the road of having a public library which can provide educational and cultural enrichment for all - a lifelong learning for people of all ages and backgrounds,” he said. Nook Larena is a place to remind the community that reading is fun. “This is a place that would make us feel the incomparable joy of flipping the pages and feeling the book in our hands as we move on to journey with its story,” he said. Book Nook Larena Area Coordinator Bethel Delatado shared in her speech that she hopes that the new generation’s passion for reading will be renewed through this project. Delatado thanked the mayor for accepting the project and Vice Mayor Cyrus Vincent Calibo, Municipal Secretary and Information Officer Lydith Tan, Budget Officer Clifford Quilicot, and the rest of the LGU Larena as well as the Larena Youth Care Organization (LYCO) and the library staff for their support, making the project a huge success. “This project will be a great legacy to the youth and is a great source of pride for us especially that the books are authored by Filipinos,” she said.
