Living a Legacy

A fourth-generation Sewickley native, Robyn Jones draws much of her inspiration in life from her family, community, and the longstanding connection between the two. In fact, her mother’s side of the family is the Sevin family, the namesake of Sevin’s road, where Robyn’s great-grandparents grew up. Today, Robyn carries her family legacy of community as a founding member of the Piatt Sotheby’s International Realty Sewickley office, Team Leader of the Robyn Jones Group, and ambassador of her hometown.

While Robyn’s family has a long history of community engagement, Robyn points to both her parents as her leading inspiration for pursuing a life of impact through real estate. Robyn’s father was a CPA and small business owner in the Village and owned a television production company. “He was brilliant with numbers, and a strategic thinker,” Robyn says. “My mom was an artist and interior designer. She was kind to a fault and loved deeply. I like to think I’m the perfect mix of the two of them.” Her parents were founding members and held the planning meetings for Christ Church at Grove Farm in their home when Robyn was in high school. Their influence was evident in Robyn from a young age. Her family gave her the nickname “super sales,” because no matter what fundraiser she was involved in with school, church, or cheerleading (be it wrapping paper, magazine subscriptions, popcorn, etc.), she always won top sales awards. Robyn attended University of Mississippi, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in Merchandising. She also holds a master’s degree in Organizational Leadership. During the summer months, she’d coach cheerleading in the mornings at Quaker Valley and worked afternoons at her father’s accounting practice. Most evenings, she also worked at a local teen center. 2 • June 2022

After graduating, Robyn moved to Baton Rouge, LA, where she began her career in marketing for children’s couture. She then entered the mortgage industry and it was there that she first realized she wanted to be in business for herself. So, she began her own marketing company, while she lived in Carmel, CA, for a year. Robyn returned to Pittsburgh in 2006 and continued in marketing, however, everything changed for Robyn in 2011, after losing her father to cancer. “I had just gotten engaged, and I began to think about what I wanted for my life and career,” Robyn explains. “While we gathered to remember and celebrate my father’s life, so many people attended and told me how he had helped them to start a business, grow a business, sell a business, make better financial decisions, or create a plan to provide for their families. I was so proud and happy to hear how many people my father helped through his career.” Robyn continues, “I wanted that too. I wanted to have control over my future and if I was going to be working hard, long days, it needed to have meaning and purpose and make a lasting impression, impacting those around me.” After a conversation with a friend who worked in the real estate industry, Robyn felt she could make the biggest impact Pittsburgh Real Producers • 3

in the lives of others and her community through real estate. She began her career in 2015, and in 2017, after being invited to lunch by Julie Guss, was given the opportunity to help open Piatt Sotheby’s International Realty (PSIR). “Knowing the long-standing, highly regarded reputation of Sotheby’s International Realty, I was intrigued by Julie’s plan,” Robyn recalls. “The more we talked and met, it became clear that Pittsburgh, and more specifically, Sewickley, needed a new brokerage and a new way to market homes and service clients. We were committed to hiring good people, with good hearts, who wanted to collaborate and work together to lift everyone up, not squabble and tear each other down.” In 2017, a few weeks after having her second daughter, Robyn and Julie joined the Sewickley office. Robyn reached another turning point in her life and career when, in January of 2019, Julie passed away. “Julie had a heart of gold. She was kind, loving, funny, and quirky. She saw something in me, and by asking me to join PSIR, literally changed the course of my life. I am forever grateful to her and miss her dearly.” Last year, Robyn was honored with the Julie Guss, Let Your Light Shine Award, created by PSIR. “I have to say that of all the awards I’ve ever received, that award meant the most to me. Knowing my peers see me that way, to compare me to Julie’s bright spirit, was the greatest award and compliment I could receive.” With the formation of the Robyn Jones Group this past January of 2022 with her best friend, Sayward Lehman, and her cousin, Megan Grau, Robyn is embarking on an exciting new chapter in life and business. The three women are excited to be working as a team and family, to let their light shine. It will be exciting to see how Robyn further cements her family’s legacy in Sewickley and the paths she continues to help forge for others.
