A Message from Kathy Wager Sprague, President of Pi Beta Phi Foundation Board of Trustees Dear sisters, We all said yes to Pi Beta Phi once, when we accepted our bids. I have learned as a volunteer for Pi Beta Phi that the more you say yes, the more fulfilling this sisterhood becomes. Leading by example is one of the most pivotal ways to implement the change you want to see in the world, and this mindset has guided me through my entire volunteer relationship with Pi Beta Phi, including my current role as President of our Foundation. I am a person who believes in saying yes and taking the opportunities presented to me, which is exactly what led me to this opportunity to serve our organization. Over the course of five years as a volunteer member of the Foundation Development Committee, I
spent countless hours meeting with sisters and donors and hearing their shared visions for what we can do together. That experience brought a new appreciation for something I have known all along: Pi Beta Phi is not a culmination of things we’ve accomplished, it’s a sisterhood of women with whom we accomplished those things, side-by-side through it all. That mission has guided us for 153 years as a Fraternity and 30 years as your Foundation. Our mission guides us through all we face as a sisterhood. In recent months, the Fraternity and Foundation responded to the calls of members internationally to live our mission and core values by redefining our diversity, equity and inclusion efforts in our sisterhood. Cultivating leadership skills and potential is a crucial focus of the programming and member development offered by Pi Phi. Improving our focus on diversity, equity and inclusion is a natural extension of the existing leadership initiatives which are near and dear to my heart. I want to help develop the leaders, scholars and philanthropists of tomorrow; this is my personal mission statement as a Pi Phi leader and why I do what I do. I want to be one set of hands in developing the next generation of women who will sustain this sisterhood and encourage each other for the next 153 years and more. As we know, building and sustaining that future happens by working together as a sisterhood, listening to one another and determining a path forward based on open dialogue and open hearts. I thank you all for what you’ve made possible through contributions to your Foundation and invite you to continue engaging in this dialogue with us as we all live out our values. In Pi Phi,
Kathy Wager Sprague, Alabama Gamma President, Pi Beta Phi Foundation Board of Trustees
