Maximize Your Impact
Corporate philanthropy programs are readily available — but often overlooked — resources that can maximize the power of your gift. Tennessee Gamma KELLEY GOLDEN was able to double her SHINE THROUGH commitment thanks to a dollar-for-dollar match from her employer. Below she shares some advice on putting matching gifts to work for Pi Phi. 1. Talk with your Human Resources department to see what your company offers. Get specifics on gift matching policies, processes and time frames. “The first and most important step is to ask. There are many companies that support their employees’ efforts to make a difference. Some match at a percentage; others match dollar-for-dollar. But every dollar counts.” 2. Ask about non-traditional matching programs. “Microsoft matches my volunteer hours for Pi Phi with a gift as well as my financial contributions. Some companies allow employees to nominate grants from a community fund or foundation.” 3. Consider your spouse or partner’s employer match. “Remember to look at matching policies at both of your employers. You could potentially triple your initial gift!” 4. Remember that every gift makes a difference. “Maybe you’re in a strong financial position, or maybe your money is tied up in child care, home renovations or student loans. Whether you give $25 or $25,000, securing a match for your gift increases your impact and makes truly transformative gifts possible.” Pi Beta Phi Foundation’s staff members are happy to help you seek options to maximize your impact on our sisterhood!
