All the homies got their pictures done by Smiley’s Shutterbugs. The line for photos was nearly as long as the line to the food. Students didn’t want to miss getting that perfect party shot while they were in great clothes and looked goooood!

PROM COMMITTEE Karen Gillis and Duy Tran were cochairmen of the prom committee. They were responsible for planning the prom from the ground up, including theme ideas, colors, running elections, listening to bands, and testing out caterers.
Alisha Keyes, Demi Lovato and Lucy Liu
“We had a big job and felt swamped most of this year,” Duy said. He and Karen were junior class president and vicepresident respectively. The junior class sponsors the prom annually for seniors with the considerable help of committee members, faculty and PTA groups. Karen said, “We did get to have some fun listening to local bands. We couldn’t make up our minds, so we hired three of them to play.”

MEET THE PARENTS
8 I EDISON HIGH SCHOOL PROM
Although most dating couples knew each other’s parents, there were the new daters who were just getting to know each other. Meeting parents was a stressful, but necessary step for guys to do in order to go to prom with their dream girls. “I was so nervous meeting Drury’s parents that I wasn’t paying attention and I knocked their mailbox off its stand when I drove up, Drury’s dad was way cool and told me that he would fix it, but that I’d have to be careful driving with her in the car,” said Robbie Franks. Reata Jones, Donte’s mother, pulled a good trick on her son. “I never told Donte that I had called Rashonda’s parents so we could meet each other. We acted really serious when the kids came to be introduced and made them nervous. Then we told them what we’d done,” she said.
Mugging for the camera are Mr. Damon Daily, father of Sally Daily, and Sally’s boyfriend, Norman Bates. (Right) Julissa Montoya’s older sister, Odelon, said that she meets every guy Julissa dates.
Julissa hugs Odelon goodbye, while Taz Santiago gets the door for her. Say goodbye, Norman. Sally is ready to rock and roll at the prom.

Nothing says success like a fancy tricked-out ride to the prom. Some kids rented a hot-air balloon to sail away into the sunset, while others preferred the lazy, romantic clip clop of a horse’s hooves pulling a cabriolet. Limousines came in all sizes and styles. The wild woody stretch Explorer and giant white Hummer caused a lot of shock and awe, but even they couldn’t match the élan of the big blue Jag easy rider.

SENIOR
STARS
Prom is always the great send off for seniors everywhere. It’s their party, thanks to the junior class, faculty and PTAs. For the past four years, current seniors have looked forward to two things‌walking across a stage and accepting a certificate of graduation and the big bash that celebrates their achievements. These seniors are either best friends or romantically attached.

Flower Grams Local florists got a double whammy when prom came around. But it meant good tidings for their sales. Nearly every senior sent a flower to his or her choice as a prom date, asking that guy or gal to go. It was a fun and pretty way of avoiding face- to-face contact and possible embarrassment if the answer were “no.” Happily, most students reported that they got the date they asked for.
Jose,
Mrs. Orton, Thanks for everything youve done for us. Thanks for being our sponsor in Student Council. We wont forget you. Love, Senior Student Council

obody knows how hard it is to decide on just the right dress, shoes, and incidentals. Lexie Bell, junior, has tried on 23 dresses and still hasn’t decided. Girls look for color, symmetry and flexibility. They want dresses that won’t constrict their movements. Dancing is hard work and a dress has to be able to stand up to it. Guys want a tuxedo that makes them stand out when they walk their dates into the dance. That first impression is important. Should a guy have a flat color or a high collar.? Should he have a cummerbund the color of his date’s dress or not? How about a white jacket over tux pants as a change instead of basic black.? Are white tie and tails in this season? The questions go on and on, while the expenses mount up. But that’s okay since the seniors have been working for years to prepare for this one night of passage into adulthood.

oordinating the color scheme of formalwear was a major endeavor. Could the guys get the propercolored cummerbund? Could the dress be a little tighter? Would the store dye the shoes to match? We didn’t forget our rides, the all-important chariots of fun. A stretch Hummer or horse and carriage? The prom committee was frantically decorating, setting up photography alcoves, stringing lights, adjusting curtains and building sets, as well as constructing stages for the three bands to use just two hours before prom began. “We wanted the seniors to have a memorable prom, so we tried to do our best. The problem was that we were too tired to enjoy it ourselves,” said Courtney Wallace, cochairman of the committee.

BEACH BONFIRES
PARTIES!
26 I EDISON HIGH SCHOOL PROM
If you’re lucky enough to live near the ocean or lake, then prom after party locations were easy to find. After spending several hours in tuxes with starched collars and ties, and tight dresses, seniors enjoyed kicking off those formal togs and getting down and grungy. No shoes, no problem. It’s bonfires and barbecue for a two a.m. boost and midnight swimming to refresh. Boom boxes blared great music while we roasted marshmallows and s’mores. The PTA parents did yeoman service providing plenty of food fuel and energy drinks as we partied the night away. Toward dawn, we dropped like rocks onto the sweet, soft beach sand for a good nap.

ord traveled fast when local bands heard that open auditions for spring prom were going to be held at the high school auditorium in January. Bands from four different counties came to show out for music committee members. Marsha Sparks, junior class vice president, said,” We advertised before Christmas over the radio and by January 15, we had 31 bands lined up. We knew we would hear some good music, but we needed a band that could play for dancing as well as listening.” The result of this time-consuming enterprise was that three bands really stood out. “We couldn’t decide on which of the three until our principal said take them all and he would pay them through the general fund, “ said Terry Allison, junior class president.
