Homemade oat granola

HOMEMADE OAT GRANOLA

Making granola at home reduces costs, plus ensures it won’t be sugar-laden. Splurge by adding nuts if you like.

Combine 3 cups (375g) rolled oats (not instant), 1½ cups (225g) mixed seeds (we used fl ax, pumpkin, sesame and sunfl ower) and ½ tsp (3ml) ground cinnamon. Add 1 cup (250ml) dried fruit, cut into small chunks if you like. Heat ¾ cup (180ml) honey until runny and toss through dry ingredients, coating well. Spread mixture out on 2 lined baking trays. Bake at 180°C for 20-30 minutes, tossing every 10 minutes for even browning. Remove from oven once golden and allow to cool completely. Store in an airtight jar for up to 1 month.

MAKES 5½ CUPS

GOOD IDEA Add 1 cup (250ml) coconut fl akes or ¼ cup (60ml) desiccated coconut to oats during the last 5 minutes of baking.
